What did you specifically learn at camp?

My friend is at an undisclosed summer camp right now and I'm a bit surprised at his progression. Could be more than I expected could be less. I just wanted to get a feel of how much people learn at these things. So I was wondering what tricks people learned or really dialed in .

If you could include age, What camp you went to, what you hoped to accomplish before camp and what you ended up accomplishing that would be sick.

Camp isn't all about "learning".

First year of camp (04, i was 15) i learned how to unnatty slide all of the rails and lincoln + rodeo 5.

Second time I went to camp (06, i was 17) I didn't necessarily learn anything new but I got to hit a bunch of awesome park features and hit a big jump and try my tricks. I loves the s-rail that year, so fun, never really saw many curved features up until then.

Every minute you ski you learn.

Not going to a summer camp will not help you progress, well maybe in making threads on Newschoolers.com

when I went to the Snowflex camp I pretty much brought everything to bigger/ harder features. I was throwing 3s off one of their big kickers which is bigger than what I did at my home hill. Also, I tried different grabs which isn't really progression but it's different I guess. I only hit flat rails before, now Im fairly comfortable on handrails. I learned how to grip better on boxes and rails too. Oh and I did a corrugated pipe for the first time(don't have those at my hill).

My snowboarder friend and I did some pretty cool shit on their butter/ beginner box. She would hold on to me around my waist and go boneless with her board in between my skis. When we got onto the box she would lift her foot that was unbound and I held it up and we slid the box like that. Haha it was super sick. I'll post a vid later. And I did a rail with her standing on the tails of my skis. I thought my skis were gonna snap but it ended up pretty good haha

I learned rodeo 7s and misty 7s on tramp too so that was chyllll.

And I got comfortable landing switch on Snowflex...pretty much the whole week was a battle at landing well on Snowflex haha

I'm 18 and I progressed way more than I thought I would. And I ended up winning a pair of skis for getting first at the comp at the end of the week. So it was really awesome.

Went to high north ski camp back in the day. Best summesr I have ever had. Learned to really style out my tricks which was my focus. Switch hits got way better at rails. I think it was the confidence of skiing with pros and them making it look so easy. That and being an east coast skier, the summer glacier was like a pillow.

When I went to schwindells with NS crew, I planned on learning something new trick wise but just learned how to hit some new rails which was still good. For me, if I have a long hiatus from skiing it takes a while to just get the feeling back of hitting rails too.

I went to les 2 alpes for a week last week, wanted to achieve: stomping as many backflips as i can on medium jumps, get better at sliding rails, tube, throw a cork 3, have fun.

stomped quite a few backflips on the medium kickers (ate shit a few times too xD), got muuuuch better at sliding every slidable feature in the park, did not throw a cork 3, had tons of fun.

Altho i did have a lot more goals before partially tearing my mcl (no not acl) 2 weeks before going like cork 7s, switch up, kfeds...still had an awesome time anyways.


@op, what i realise more and more is that for rail/boxes tricks, you just gotta eat shit, get bruised and you'll progress fast but i'll take you a long time to land the trick every time (like a looong time). For jumps, if your best tricks are between a 3 and a cork5, it's gonna take a lot more balls to throw it, but most of the time if you're lucky you'll eat less shit than on rails even if you're trying ro7 for the first time (unless you take it to the biggest kickers obviously). So if you have balls, are lucky and are fairly good at tramping, you can progress a hell of a lot in one camp week (on jumps).

Went to Woodward at Copper and worked as a Junior Counselor, this is my 4th year at Woodward and it was a good time. Beyond having a ton of fun I learned a lot of new tricks, learned lip 2s on, some switch rail tricks, filmed some clips for an edit, dialed cork 5s and 3s with some new grabs, worked on switch and forward rodeos and some work on rightside tricks. Also worked on doubles on trampolines and stuff, which I'm usually not good at.

Went to Windells when I was 16 and learned some new tricks at the same rate that i normally learned new tricks. It was more just skiing an awesome park with awesome people and having a good time. One of the most fun experiences ive had.

Every minute you spend in school you learn. Going to a summer camp will not help you pay tution and gain an education, well maybe an unmarketable one like freeskiing.

I went to Woodward at Copper and didnt learn jack shit. My coach was super lame and unmotivated. He wasn't willing to help you with anything. That was just my experience though...

That seriously sucks...I went to Woodward 2007-2010 and every coach I ever met was really helpful and passionate about coaching. I did notice that the groups were sorta big at the time. Idk if anything has changed. At the Snowflex camp there was only one other girl skier so we had our own coach. He was super cool. He helped us out a lot and instead of making us go through a upper rail/box-jump-beginner rail/box rotation, we got to choose what features we wanted to hit and what tricks we wanted to work on.

Most people tend to set their goals way to high cause they think every minute is spent on the hill when in reality it's like 5-6 hours. Personally last year I went into camp with 3 goals - backflips cork 7s and rodeo 5s. I ended up landing only flat 3s and backflips. So it sort of depends on how much u want to progress.

thats unfortunate
when I went to woodward this year my coach was very motivating and overall it was a good time
I got lots and lots of new tricks as well

I learned underflips, 2 on to down rails (from LJ) and flat 3's
