Treatment for alcoholism in europe

In america the typical protocal is to push absolute abstinence.

In europe when you go into treatment the first thing they ask you is "what is the minimum number of drinks you think you could get by with in a day?"

The importance of an addicts subjective experience is obviously emphasized in europe.
In america objective judgement is rendered- addicts dont know whats best for themselves- they need to be indoctrinated by medical professionals who know everything

Can't tell if trolling or naw but....Drug addicts are fucked up people who need help with their lives, not degenerate scum. It makes me sympathetic when I see drug addicts being treated like garbage because they can't get help.

Nah, here you get ampoules injected in your thigh or back, which make you sick if you drink alcohol, it doesn't stop hardcore drinkers and most just continue drinking after the effect wears off.

The person needs to want to get rid of the addiction, otherwise there's nothing the doctors can do.

the compassion flows from this one. have you ever had a severe injury and needed opiods to have a semblance of comfort? People don't use opiates solely for the purpose of getting addicted. get off your fucking high horse

They arent victims but pragmatically it is very easy and cost effective to treat them the way they do throughout europe- giving them free full agonist opiates (either heroin or morphine) so they dont have to spend their entire lives getting money for drugs and can move on, get a job, a home, start a family.
Barto i know youre trolling but alot of inferior people think the way you are speaking, so its worth rebutting.

Ive had opiates prescribed to me several times. Ive taken percocet for fun but understand moderation. Getting addicted is a choice.

It is somewhat a choice. Some people in your situation try to take them only for pain and in great moderation, but it is a VERY slippery slope with opiates.

There are alot of pathetic addicts out there who were lonely or depressed and thought they would try addiction to see if they could feel a little more sorry for themselves, getting addicted to something they didnt even enjoy in the first place.
Ive gotten alot of hate from these pathetic girly types who bought hook line and sinker the indoctrination of rehab that opiates are the problem, when the reality is that lack of opiates is the only problem there needs to be.
Addicts in europe that are maintained on either morphine or heroin are actually rather content people. Because they are on a stable dose it isnt making them as high as they got when they started their addiction, but the feel normal. And anyone who has been thru opiate withdrawal knows that feeling normal is not something to take for granted. Feeling normal is awesome.

Addicts are addicts because they have no self control. True you might have that one in a million that can go cold turkey, then drink once a month socially. What's the bare minimum number of drinks to start out with is most likely so alcoholics don't die of the cumulative hangover, and can begin to work towards a goal. After alcoholics stop drinking, for the first couple months they have horiffic body odor and get constant night terrors, and that's just two of many more side effects. if a recovering alcoholic so much as even a sip of champagne at a family member's wedding. Their chances of relapsing skyrocket.

Depends on the drug. With alcohol, moderate self control can get you farther than it can with opiates. With opiates you need some industrial strength self control to keep them from controlling you.

You are correct, but sadly that's not the case. Its called taking classes at college, I'm talking to doctors and other experts who actually work with addicts, and no it was not psych 101. But again you would rather argue that I pretend to know about something than actually argue with me about the subject we're talking about. Trainspotting is a great movie, and that quote is accurate. You really dont care about the things that normally bother people when you have opiates. Its like an off switch for your cares and worries. You dont need to be rich, you dont need pussy, you dont need expensive clothes, expensive anything. When you take opiates you are already bathing in the greatest luxury there is on earth.
