Snowshoes as a touring alternative?

So me and a couple of buddies plan to build some booters outside of resort boundaries next season. It won't be very far outside of the resort, maybe 1000 feet out of bounds tops. But I can't afford touring bindings and skins, so would snowshoes work as an alternative to those? +K to helpful responses.
