Started my own Wooden Sunglasses Brand - rawWood Shades Co.

So wooden sunglasses are rad. But I'm sure most people don't get to experience that because they're like $100+ easy. So we set out to create affordable, yet still high-quality wooden sunglasses.



All of our shades will sell for less than $40. All of our shades for sale right now are less than $30.

We're starting an indiegogo campaign so we can try to get enough funds to go into large-scale production so we can become self-sustaining. Our wooden sunglasses all have polarized high-quality lenses, two-way spring hinges, and definitely stand out from the crowd.

I'd love any feedback anyone has. We'd love to find a home in the ski scene, and we know the other guys' sunglasses just aren't realistically ever going to take off here at the $130 price point.

Although we haven't done extensive weather/abuse testing, they do stand up to the elements well. As with anything wooden, if you take decent enough care of it, it will remain in great condition. Also, the glasses float!

We've put September as a point just because once we get our funding it could take up to that long before we may actually get them out, and problems could always arise. Since we don't have hundreds and hundreds sitting around (yet) we have to do it this way. Hopefully soon after they will be up for sale on our website for good!

As of now we don't have any customizable options, unless you want to pay for the $150 option on indiegogo to customize your own!

In the future, we definitely will. After our initial run, we're going to try and introduce quite a few new models regularly. Cruisers are bigger than Originals, but all of them fit great due to the two-way spring hinges. I have a huge head and they fit me like a charm. But in the future, we will introduce different styles/woods/lenses!

Thanks man! We think everyone should have a chance to see how awesome wooden sunglasses can be, and move away from the petroleum-based plastic sunglasses being thrown out in mass quantities.

Anyway frogskins I can change the lenses and earpieces and frames in less than a minute. Paint doesn't do that. Just wondered if these were customizable...also I haven't heard anything about my sponsorship..

Since our store on the website isn't technically open, if you placed an order through indiegogo, you'd hopefully get it just after that campaign is ended and we receive the funds. It sucks not having tons of these in stock quite yet, but soon hopefully.

We worked for awhile coming up with a design that we truly liked and would work and not feel cheap. I'm really happy with the final product. So we contacted numerous woodworking shops who could hand-make these for us, and allow us to keep our costs low. In order to keep this MO of ours, we have to source out the production. I wish we had the tools for large-scale production right here and could do it and keep costs low, but that's impossible at our price point.
Like I said before, we're also hoping to introduce multiple lenses/styles/wood types in the near future based on what the customers want. With it never costing over $40, solid.

Good to hear. Had to ask. I don't have anything against buying shit, putting a name on it and reselling it, just people that try and pitch it off as being core.

Sometimes even wholesale isn't enough for people and they get the cheapest rate to save an extra couple cents a piece when there's a huge markup I have some Neff shades I won that are one of the cheapest pair of shades I've ever held. Good looking but I feel like I could break them just buy putting them on my head.

OR buying a beanie that cost $.50 for 20 because somebody sewed a tag for some company on it.


Idk. Happy to hear you're involved in the process. I'm not sure if I'll buy a pair but I'm a shit ton more likely to after hearing that. Probably will at some point. Maybe I'll buy some now just to hel with the fundage.

Good luck though. Def, make sure you tell people that when you talk about them. I feel it makes them far more desirable.

Appreciate it! Yeah it's tough to get up enough funds to really produce like we want to. We want to be able to keep a solid offering in stock, and that's why we have to go to indiegogo really at this point. Our early customers really are helping us out a ton! Thanks for the support!

I have a photoshoot lined up in like a week, but in the meantime I'll work on getting some shots of them on my ugly mug just for reference for everyone. Probably will help people, seeing how they fit. I'll post back when I get some, hopefully today.

Wasn't trying to ignore anything, can't disclose the location of our top-secret facilities. jk. But yes, we source our manufacturing to china in order to keep our costs low. Not trying to hide anything about our company, we want to gain the trust of our customers. I can assure you, no slaves or young kids are producing our sunglasses. And the bamboo being so abundant in china makes the most since for our company!

Thanks! Yeah, we plan on building with oak, beech, zebrawood etc in the near future so. Bamboo floats which is awesome, and lets us keep costs low since its so plentiful.

especially knowing your markup is probably pretty ridiculous since I'd imagine bamboo frames from china cost you about a buck a piece.

Keep in mind that I have a massive noggin. So for most people the shades will probably look bigger on the face.



/end of my modeling career.

The green mirrored originals and originals are the same exact size as well.
I'll make sure to get some actual good pics soon, just thought I'd throw my ugly mug up there for reference until then!
