Israel begins ground invasion of Gaza

IDF starts Gaza ground invasion By YAAKOV LAPPIN

IDF ground forces began to move into the Gaza Strip on Thursday evening, the prime minister's office confirmed.

The purpose of the operation was to destroy the Gazan terror tunnels leading to Israel, according to a statement released by the prime minister's office.

Prior to the commencement of the ground invasion, the IDF launched a massive wave of combined air and artillery strikes on Thursday night.

The IDF said that the operation will involve infantry, engineering corps, and tank units combined with air force and naval support and intelligence.

Palestinian sources said strikes occurred up and down the Strip, adding that one strike targeted a motorcycle apparently carrying members of a rocket launching cell on their way to an attack on Israel.

At around 10:00 p.m. rocket sirens sounded in the Tel Aviv area, and in the Shfela. Iron Dome made a number of interceptions in the Tel Aviv area.

Hamas bombarded Israel on Thursday with rockets after the end of the humanitarian truce, firing over 100 projectiles after 3 p.m. Eighty one rockets landed in open areas, two fell inside villages, damaging two homes, and 20 were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system.

Also on Thursday, a drone from Gaza was detected in Israeli airspace, over the Ashkelon area. The IAF fired a patriot surface-to-air missile at the aircraft, shooting it down. It was the second Hamas drone to be shot down in recent days.

The IDF on Thursday warned citizens of Gaza to evacuate their homes and make their way from less populated areas to the Strip's major cities.

Close to 100,000 leaflets containing the message were dropped over the territory and hundreds of thousands of citizens from all over Gaza received recorded phone messages warning them to vacate villages.

Air raid sirens sounded throughout southern and central areas during the day. Ashkelon and Ashdod were targeted by Hamas repeatedly in the evening, and were successfully defended by Iron Dome.

Iron Dome intercepted two rockets over central Israel and the Sharon district in the evening, and one over the city of Ashdod. Several rockets landed in open areas.

The Gaza-border region of Eshkol came under continuous rocket barrages. Some ten rockets in open areas, and one damaged a home.

Between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Hamas fired 40 rockets at Israel, and Iron Dome shot three down Two rockets were fired at Beersheba, with one falling in an open area and a second intercepted over the Negev city.

Within a minute of the ceasefire ending, rockets were fired from Gaza at the Ashkelon industrial area and Hof Ashkelon region. Most fell in open areas.

The humanitarian ceasefire was violated when Hamas fired 3 projectiles at the Eshkol region. The rockets exploded in open areas.

On Thursday morning, one rocket was intercepted over the greater Tel Aviv and Sharon district, and one rocket fell in an open area. In Beersheba, Iron Dome intercepted an incoming Gazan rocket.

For anyone who cares to know, Hamas has been storing weapons in UN aid centeres. The UN knows this and not only did nothing about it, but handed over control to Hamas

The UN is incompetent and weak - I don't give a fuck if Isreal fucks them up.

I understand your hesitation to publicly admit your dislike for jews. In this post-holocaust era, it wouldn't go over too well with most people. The rhetoric you've used in this thread, however, makes it blatantly obvious why you oppose Israel.


Also, your non-sequitur explanation for why I hate muslims is cute but couldn't be farther from the truth. I hate Muslims because they behead their own daughters when she dares to defy their pre-arranged marriage. I hate muslims because they riot in the streets when cartoonists draw Muhammad. I hate muslims because the majority of them support killing anybody who leaves Islam. I hate muslims because of 9/11.

There is a huge difference between hating Jews and opposing Israel. They cannot be used interchangeably, and unfortunately a lot of Jews can't seem to grasp this and think anybody who doesn't support Israel is anti -semitic.

So don't say someone hates Jews because they don't side with Israel, as you said there's still quite the stigma over being anti-Jew so it's not cool to accuse someone unjustly of that.

I'm not equating opposing Israel and hating jews. I'm saying this guy opposes Israel because he hates jews. The picture he posted is pretty solid evidence of this claim.

You should have paid more attention in English class.

And after that long, eye-rollingly predictable spiel, I think I've hit the nail on the head to be honest. Islam is generally a pretty hideous religion, most of the time essentially practicing the exact opposite of what it preaches, but you can't judge (or hate, in your case) an entire, multi-continental group of people because of the actions of an extreme minority - something that you are either failing to understand or choosing to ignore

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have just assumed something without knowing what I was talking about. I only figured you were trying to lower someone to your level so you don't feel so severe about your stance. If you're going to cherry pick too, at least be less misleading about it. 64% of polled Muslims in Egypt and Pakistan (2 out of a total 38 countries polled). That survey (http://www.pewforum.org/files/2013/04/worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-full-report.pdf), by the way, was pretty skewed in itself considering only those who said they were in favour of Sharia law were further asked about death for apostasy - a small, already biased sample which you're absurdly claiming to be the globe's entire Muslim population.
It's easy to look at basic figures like this without any previous, unbiased knowledge on its context or historical implications and immediately assume the worst, i.e. what you've done, but the bigger picture usually gives valuable insight and makes these extreme sorts of views explainable. Punishment for Apostasy, or (originally) simply excommunication from the community, has always been a foundational tenet of Islam, and was regarded as more of a treasonous, inflicted wound to the physical, communal faith rather than a sole abandonment. Apostasy in the 21st century obviously cannot be punished for those original reasons, but, regardless, the tradition has endured. Don't get me wrong; I think it's completely barbaric and belongs in the Bronze Age - just don't jump to conclusions about millions of people because of one shallow, misguiding 'fact'.
You also forgot to mention that (although rather contradictory, very important in giving further context) 75 and 95 percent of those same polled Egyptians and Pakistanis (respectively) were in favour of complete religious freedom. As you can hopefully now see, it is not, and usually never is, as black and white as you're making it out to be.
I hope you also understand that there's really no way for you to justify your ironically extreme hatred for millions of people you've never met and who you obviously know close to nothing about. Step away from this narrow little world you live in and realize a vast amount of these people are, surprisingly, just like you and me

Wow nice report, you might want to mention that its "64% of Muslims in EGYPT" who support the death penalty for leaving the religion. And no fucking shit they do, they view their religion as a community, more-so in poverty stricken areas where war is almost a constant thing. They have different beliefs and grew up in a vastly different part of the world, get the fuck over it.

Slightly off topic, but if you ask the president what keeps you up at night. He'll say Pakistan, its very scary to think one day a religious person who doesn't care about living, amd just wants to kill himself for his 72 virgins can get a hold of a nuclear warhead.

I can't stress it enough, but you really have no clue what you're talking about. I was with a friend of a friend the last couple of days who happened to be Muslim, and he was one of the nicest and most cultured people I've ever met. (He didn't even try to kill me, too, which was nice). I can personally attest to this guy's good nature, yet according to you, and basing it off absolutely nothing, he's actually some sort of murderous sub-human (which is what I assume you consider him and the rest of the Muslim population), even though you've never met him before? Don't make me laugh

I'm not saying that because their position on apostasy is traditional, it's ok - I think it's barbaric. I'm only encouraging you to try and understand these things and where and how they come about to hopefully get a better, more open opinion on it, since that is what you have seemed to lack in everything you've said so far. I think you may be looking slightly too deep into that picture too - it was just a light hearted stab which fit pretty perfectly with that report. I'm not sure how you can equate that with me hating the globe's entire Jewish population, to be honest?
Whilst they may not officially donate the most, AIPAC is by far the strongest lobby in the U.S. Their outright power over your congress is well beyond your grasp, and unfortunately their grip has only gotten more aggressive and extreme over the years. There are dozens of articles online detailing it - read up.

I'm well aware of what irony is, and funnily it's pretty ironic in itself that you could accuse me of not understanding it yet you yourself not comprehend why I would call your extreme stance ironic in the first place. For the last time: the actions of a minority in this instance cannot and do not represent the whole. It's surprising how that's still not getting through to you - maybe when you grow up a bit you'll understand, and also hopefully come to realize how backwards and plainly embarrassing what you're saying is. It's a bit worrying how you could hate someone whose existence you aren't even aware of, and whose personality and ideals you know even less about
