Israel begins ground invasion of Gaza

IDF starts Gaza ground invasion By YAAKOV LAPPIN

IDF ground forces began to move into the Gaza Strip on Thursday evening, the prime minister's office confirmed.

The purpose of the operation was to destroy the Gazan terror tunnels leading to Israel, according to a statement released by the prime minister's office.

Prior to the commencement of the ground invasion, the IDF launched a massive wave of combined air and artillery strikes on Thursday night.

The IDF said that the operation will involve infantry, engineering corps, and tank units combined with air force and naval support and intelligence.

Palestinian sources said strikes occurred up and down the Strip, adding that one strike targeted a motorcycle apparently carrying members of a rocket launching cell on their way to an attack on Israel.

At around 10:00 p.m. rocket sirens sounded in the Tel Aviv area, and in the Shfela. Iron Dome made a number of interceptions in the Tel Aviv area.

Hamas bombarded Israel on Thursday with rockets after the end of the humanitarian truce, firing over 100 projectiles after 3 p.m. Eighty one rockets landed in open areas, two fell inside villages, damaging two homes, and 20 were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system.

Also on Thursday, a drone from Gaza was detected in Israeli airspace, over the Ashkelon area. The IAF fired a patriot surface-to-air missile at the aircraft, shooting it down. It was the second Hamas drone to be shot down in recent days.

The IDF on Thursday warned citizens of Gaza to evacuate their homes and make their way from less populated areas to the Strip's major cities.

Close to 100,000 leaflets containing the message were dropped over the territory and hundreds of thousands of citizens from all over Gaza received recorded phone messages warning them to vacate villages.

Air raid sirens sounded throughout southern and central areas during the day. Ashkelon and Ashdod were targeted by Hamas repeatedly in the evening, and were successfully defended by Iron Dome.

Iron Dome intercepted two rockets over central Israel and the Sharon district in the evening, and one over the city of Ashdod. Several rockets landed in open areas.

The Gaza-border region of Eshkol came under continuous rocket barrages. Some ten rockets in open areas, and one damaged a home.

Between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Hamas fired 40 rockets at Israel, and Iron Dome shot three down Two rockets were fired at Beersheba, with one falling in an open area and a second intercepted over the Negev city.

Within a minute of the ceasefire ending, rockets were fired from Gaza at the Ashkelon industrial area and Hof Ashkelon region. Most fell in open areas.

The humanitarian ceasefire was violated when Hamas fired 3 projectiles at the Eshkol region. The rockets exploded in open areas.

On Thursday morning, one rocket was intercepted over the greater Tel Aviv and Sharon district, and one rocket fell in an open area. In Beersheba, Iron Dome intercepted an incoming Gazan rocket.

That is like saying it is absurd to act as if Russia, China, and other Muslim countries aren't part of the problem either.

This is akin to a proxy war of the Cold War era, heck, it could even be considered a continuation of one.

And Granite has a good point above me, the American Government=/= the American People. Yes we may vote them in, but the American political system is flawed and this is a prime example.

To spare from a long list of faults, let me just tell you that there was no 'Palestine' in 1946 (nor was there an Israel.) There was only the British Mandate.

Well if you look at the map, it doesn't say Israel in the first two versions. It says jewish and palestinian land which in my opinion is supposed to show the areas of land mostly inhabitated by people of that group (or muslims and jews)

But those regions are not even correct, I take no side in this conflict but I do stand against spreading falsified information as truth to further one's own goals, you didn't make them, I can't blame you, but you can refrain from posting them considering their lack of truth.

No, I just thought if you can post a comically disingenuous infographic, then why not I too?

In all seriousness, your map sequence is a train wreck of misinformation. As it's been said, the land was British in 1946, not Palestinian. Also, it's essentially impossible to determine the authenticity of the first frame as the number of Jews and their settlements was not completely known (and the entire area was administered in union with Jordan).
As for the 1947 partition plan, the Palestinians rejected this offer for statehood in favour of war (which they have done so more than once, might I add).
And as for the last two frames, it is again impossible to determine such a black and white divide considering Jordanians and Egyptians were both occupying the mapped green area at the time too. I can imagine the size of Jewish settlements illustrated is grossly overestimated regardless.

As I mentioned on the second page, the Jews purchased the land from willingly selling Arabs. It wasn't taken over like most people think. It wasn't like the early American settlers and the Native Americans.

When it comes to the 1948 2 state plan I am not sure how much land the Jews owned compared to the Arabs. I just know the Arabs rejected the treaty because they refuse to acknowledged the state of Israel. Chose to have war instead, thus the entire land was stated by the UN to the Jews as the state of Israel.

After a pro-Palestine rally in Paris members of the rally burned cars and looted Jewish owned shops. Not the first time either. Previous times locals heard chats of, "Gas the Jews" and "Kill all the Jews"

And a lot of the support for Gaza is due to anti semitism, not a feeling of being a humanitarian and caring about the civilians.

I wasn't trying to direct that post at you, just point out some other things going on around the world related to this conflict.



And I am looking at both point of views, but you have to be informative, the Jews purchased the land, it wasn't taken. I don't see how that you can say it is a "loss of land" they sold it legally.

It has to do with lobbyists, for some reason a bunch of Christians in Texas pay the government a ton of money into helping out Isreal, I think if I read about it correctly it was because they believed once Jews under certain portion of the Middle East Jesus will come back.

There is a belief that if all the Jews return to their homeland, Israel, that Jesus will rise again. But I don't think that has to do with the main support for Israel in America. Maybe a little, but not the driving factor.

large scale non-jewish support for zionism in the US, especially at the governmental/lobbying level, is because in the geopolitical realm the US loves having a bastion of US/non-muslim support in the middle east. this is like the only simple aspect of this entire subject

While this is true, it's mostly because the Bible says that God will bless any nation that supports and protects the Jews and Israel. And it says Israel is holy land and it's for the Jews. So most Christians believe the Jews are God's chosen people and Israel is their rightful land granted by God.

Source: I grew up with a fundamentalist Christian father. (I'm not a fundamentalist Christian myself, but I know the whole dogma from growing up in that environment)

Sorry but this is the stupidest fucking graphic ever, there are so many different ethnic groups and sects being grouped together as muslims even though they have different languages, traditions and ways of life. Would you be okay with being relocated thousands of miles away to africa or something just on the basis of, "oh americans are predominately christian, and so are kenyans, they'll get along just fine!"

anyone who prioritizes extremist religious values above rational thought and respect for other humans has a mental disorder as far as i'm concerned. these two groups are fighting over a fucking sandbox because of some unvetted book and its insane offshoots. people love the idea of things being explainable i guess

i'll respect any reasonable approach to spirituality and religion but church-states have no place in today's world.......IMO

actually i read something on this recently. a pew research poll...polled people on things like "are suicide bombings [ever, often, sometimes, rarely] justified?" and the average across all the countries with the affirmative answers lumped together was around 40%. needless to say in some places like pakistan it was like 5%, something way more reasonable, and in places like gaza it was some stupid high number, and then everything in between. no surprise that shit holes produce extremists...

i hate that some people lump all muslims in with the wackos but i have to admit i thought that number would be much much lower. but i'm an equal opportunity religion hater (when we're talking geopolitical stuff... obviously the vast majority of religious folk in the world are upstanding people who mind their own business), as far as im concerned as soon as someone thinks they have god's will on their side then they're most likely gonna behave like a fucking idiot. islam just happens to be the one doing the most crazy balls-out shit this century

The point I am trying to make here which is as relevant as it gets, is that the academia / conditioned entertainment individual mentality today and for the last decade is so detached from reality they talk and write as if debating the rules and reasoning of the war topic as if a cribbage game. They mention death and slaughter (potential or actual) as if a review of a new TV series.

Safety through conditioned illusion of the reality of a situation will not cut it any more. Ever dream you could fly, or walk through walls, or walk down the highway into oncoming traffic where the cars would not hit you?
Well, dreaming is safe. Illusion is safe. Hard core "reality" can have lethal and unintended consequences for those that allow themselves to be entertained.

Arrogance for a show of deadly force at the cost of much blood and lives cannot be allowed or tolerated. This is not entertainment folks, it is the choice between life and death.

The circumstances for any war or lethal military attack should be determined by: THE ANSWER TO THIS ONE QUESTION:

If you, your family, and all of your friends were sitting at ground zero, do the circumstances created by others in that location warrant a lethal strike on ground zero?


If the answer is yes TO THAT QUESTION, than bombs away. If no, then stand down and resolve, or assist to resolving if you choose. Resolving the circumstances that moved the question to be asked in the first place.
War is the bully coward’s way of confrontation without the use of effective true intelligence and brilliance applied for mutually beneficial coexistence. War also puts much easy money in the pockets of what can be called noting other than true, well placed human scum.

The choice is all of ours folks of Life or Death. Choose wisely and back your choice up with true applied force to influence what end result flourishes.

TO END ALL WARS, it is actually much easier to do so than you may think. But then being captured in masterful entertainment for evil profit saturating us all is the first detriment to an easy resolution of the matter.

Those that choose death should in true justice reap what they sow and Ditto for those that choose life.

If they would keep their artillery in the lesser-inhabited southern region of the Gaza Strip civilian casualties would be minimized. However, Hamas has shown blatant disregard for their people's well-being and safety, using them as human shields. This is pretty common knowledge at this point... Even among the most liberal sources (like the NY Times).

This doesn't wash the blood off Israel's hands bombing civilian targets. All this shows is that Hamas is effectively using it to get publicity by showing that Israel doesn't give a shit if they kill civilians, which is obviously true. Hamas are fucking terrible for doing that to their people, but Israel is just as bad, if not worse, for still shooting.

The Vice News channel on YouTube has some pretty interesting footage and interviews coming out of there right now that I think are well worth a look.

All this shows is that Hamas is effectively using it to get publicity by showing that Israel doesn't give a shit if they kill civilians, which is obviously true. Hamas are fucking terrible for doing that to their people, but Israel is just as bad, if not worse, for still shooting.

The Vice News channel on YouTube has some pretty interesting footage and interviews coming out of there right now that I think are well worth a look.


I agree, but Israel has to do something to defend against Hamas's attacks. To think that Hamas wouldn't be killing Israeli civilians on a larger scale if it wasn't for the fact that they have a military on par with sand people is short-sighted.

I'm sure that's absolutely true, it's no secret that most of Middle East would like to see Israel wiped off the map. While that is the case, they already have defenses in place for that, in the form of US backing and a nuclear deterrent.

I just don't agree with the scale of the Israeli offensive while claiming they are "defending themselves." How many people got killed by Hamas rockets before the airstrikes started? 1? The Iron Dome has done a damn good job protecting Israel so far. I'm not sure that warrants a full scale ground invasion that has killed over 1,000 people. They could have taken the high road and continued to work through diplomacy, but that has never been the plan. Netanyahu is just as eager as Hamas to have an excuse to shoot at each other.

It'll be interesting to see how long this can go on. Do you think that Palestine will be able to exist in any way in the next 50 years or will Israel eventually force them out?

Hey israel does what they can to get them to leave, they have radio signals warning civilians in gaza. Thats all they can do, either way Israel has agreed to every ceasefire they can.

Those Iron Dome missiles are very expensive, Israel would run out before Hamas ran out of their half-rate rockets.

Hamas is basically an older ISIS, and should be wiped out as such.
