MartianManYeah, but it seems kind of silly to make two skis that are so similar.
Blend:
100mm waist
Soft Flex
Twin Early Rise
Sir Francis Bacon:
104mm waist
Soft Flex
Twin Early Rise
The only real difference is the balsa flax core.
CamembertSo Salomon comes with the same tech binding we have seen in the Backland video but with blue colors? Interesting thing that they made a more freeride orientated boot for a basic tech touring binding.. Or does the Salomon boot also fits in the Guardian/Tracker? (The Atomic Backland doesnt..)
onenerdykidYou think there are joeys in the USA, come to Europe and watch the truly average skier from Holland try to walk in their normal alpine boots. They really do struggle.
NigelSteinSome new threads about 15/16 Line and Armada. Lineups look good

Well on my account, I posted the 2015/2016 Line Skis, and later I will be posting the lines for Faction, and Full Tilt later on tonight, and tomorrow morning. Below is the link for the 2015/2016 Line Skis.

also he has some black pivots on them, the don't look like this years fks maybe black pivot next year? probably wrong or missing something but oh well
NinetyFourCan anybody explain why Mike might have a set of FKS/Pivots mounted up? Even though he's sponsored by Atomic, and they clearly provide him with bindings, is this just an athlete's preferred choice?

Spartabindings seem to be one of those things that's super personal and if an athlete really feels comfortable on a certain binding they won't ski any other kind. The same thing happens with seth morrison- part of the jardin family but will only ski Salomon bindings still.
MartianManAlso, my guess is that those are the pipe version of the Punx that Atomic makes for their pipe athletes. If you look at the bindings of pipe skiers: David Wise, TYW, etc, you will see that almost all of them use FKS/Pivots. I thick the elasticity of the binding works better for pipe landings, but honestly I have no idea, it is just a trend you see in that discipline.
NinetyFourI'd have to look at the numbers but I'm quite sure TomPietrowski and Onenerdykid have both mentioned that the STH2 has more elastic travel in the toe and heel than the FKS/Pivots do. If it is a mind thing for an athlete though and that gives them the edge they need, then I can't blame em.

ski-hippieI heard a rumor that oakley is making helmets
PentHausWhat's the deal with the Mordecai and SFB getting cloud core? Isnt that going to get rid of the maple, and make them worse in crud? Like how the new rossi 7 series is lighter, ya they're also stiffer, but they get thrown around a bit more in crud.. I have never skied the opus, but i read how everyone loves it, it just wasnt the most stable in crud. Line should have put that stardust core in the sick day, and made the mordecai 112 underfoot, the same weight, and a tad stiffer. Ultimate versatile all mountain/pow, making the jj, patron or shreditor 112 obsolete. I bet a lot of skiers would buy a thinner version of the opus, with the supernatural materials and flex. I would, in a heartbeat. Id pay fr0ggen retail, and I never do that.
Maybe just speculation, and I can eat my words when people start skiing them, and they are in fact better in crud. I hope im wrong, and that happens. But my buddy told me how a guy was ripping around on them in jackson hole today, and they were getting thrown around a bunch.

CamembertOk, so maybe someone knows this or can figure it out.. On the heel piece there is this black part, in this top right picture it is under the yellow lever..
You can see it better in the atomic video or the picture bellow..the red arrows point at it :)
It rotates just like the pins when in skin mode, unlike the yellow lever that doesnt rotate..
Q: what does that black part do / where is it for?
NinetyFourI'm thinking it rotates 360° and rotates with the pins. Black lever back/pins forward is ski mode. Black lever and pins to either side is flat tour mode. Black lever forward/pins back is the first heel riser, flip the stationary part down onto that for the second heel riser.
Just guesses but that's how I can see it functioning.

I_liketobutterMaybe they don't want to make the best all-around ski? Part of what draws me, and probably others to pollards skis are how they are softer/lighter/more playful than a other competing skis. I don't want a ski that excels in crud. That isn't what I want to ski. And to be honest, the current bacon does just fine in crud for how well it performs in other areas.
I'm never a fan of the jack of all trades, master of none when it comes to skis.
CamembertHmm that would make a very small difference in angle / height..
PentHausI understand, but that doesnt work in Jackson Hole.. it gets super cruddy here, and skiing top to bottom off piste is horrible on a soft, light ski.. why line makes the mordecai just a powder, groomer ski is beyond me. I mean they thinned it out, so it seems like they want to make it more versatile, but lightening it up contradicts that.
PentHausTrue. Its all for the average consumer. I just wish theyd make a supernatural opus, 112 underfoot, limited production. That would be such and awesome ski.
