I hate to sound like a complainer but can you please tell us that there will be more varied colour offerings next year? I was mega bummed to see that the 'overseas' colour offering was cut for both the Sarg and B-Dog this year:
It was almost weird to me that there was an orange and red offering for the Sarg this year. Two pretty similar colours. Aha I'm holding out for something I like next year!

To the binding questions- yes we (Atomic & Salomon) have new pin bindings coming out... but you'll need to be patient on info & details. Right now we're just releasing details on the boot range and I can't disrupt the balance of the universe nor melt the internet in the same day.

First I thought..no adjustment in the lower cables? Then I noticed what is going on under the buckle..that plus the two options on the other side will probably make enough adjustment..
How does the switch work / stay in place when in ski mode? Adjustment is in the top part right?

The Backland Carbon (black version, most geared for the down) has the same measured forward flex as our Hawx 2.0 110, which is one of the stiffer 110s on the market.
So for the majority of skiers out there, this means it easily has the ability to power a ski with a 100mm waist. Many of our team have already paired this up with an Automatic 102 as their touring setup.
The Backland Carbon Light is more geared for the uphill, so it uses a lighter liner and chassis build. But, it still ranks up there with our Hawx 90. Which is not bad given that it's almost 1/3 the weight of a normal alpine boot.
The Backland is also about 90 to the front, but is less powerful laterally since it does not have a carbon cuff. It uses the beefier liner from the Carbon model so it does not have the carbon cuff, it at least has that working in its favor.

Our Cross Lace is adjustable both medially (2 positions) and laterally (4 positions) so even if you run no tongue or with tongue there is enough adjustment for sure.
What switch are you referring to? The buckle of the Cross Lace? If so, there is a wire bail locking everything in place, plus the buckle locks both downward and upward rather than flop all over the place like other boots.

Ah ok. There is a super strong spring that holds it up, and given its pivot point is it not possible to accidentally flip down. You need to purposefully do it. The orange piece around the base of the mechanism is actually a bumper so it doesn't whack into the carbon cuff when you flip it open. The spring is even strong enough to break apart any snow build up too.

So are these supposed to be a competitor to purely backcountry touring boots a la TLT6 and Scarpa Spirits, or more freeride BC boots like the Vulcan and Maestrale? Does this change anything for the Waymaker? Or will that stay as a competitor to the Scarpa Freedom, Cochise, etc?

Exact pricing for North America will be given at SIA, but I'm pretty sure they will be in line with comparable models from Dynafit & Scarpa and not more expensive.

What athletes are currently using them full time?
Waymaker gets beefed up with some improvements and stays around as our Freeride Touring boot and the Backland occupies the spot for the general purpose 50/50 touring skier.
This is a bit of a weird category to get "full time" athletes for since it is a general purpose touring boot... it's not a rando race boot nor is it a huck your meat boot, but Sage, Benchetler, Dana, Daron, Ligare, and Molly will all use it for when they want to get out and simply earn their turns.

Backland's forefoot last width is 98mm in size 26.5. This is considered narrow in the grand scheme of things but we've spent a lot of time going over the anatomical nuances to make this boot fit super well out of the box. So if your foot is narrow-narrow/medium you will be stoked.
Memory Fit is our way to easily heat and mold the shell, cuff, and liner to your foot, ankle, and leg shape. So if there are some tweaks that need to happen, the boot can easily be modified to accommodate your foot's uniqueness.

But here's a intersting topic. 4frnt pro models run for 5 years. This is the 4frnf YLE last year. What will the beast look like? Will 4frnt give wiley another promodel after his 5 years are up? Keep in mind that he will be 32 or 33 by then, even tho he's still throwing down.

I was at their headquarters in salt lake the other day and got a tour of the back room, they said no pictures and I can't say much, but there is a kye pro model that they have a few of, and a wiley collab ski and they both look pretty sick. heard the kye is going to be a mid season drop and that they should both be on display at SIA.

Hm now narrow foot here.. Have BD factors that I believe are a bit over 100mm and still needed some punching.. With memory fit something like that is done very quick and easy?

I do think the yle needs a redesign, or at least an update to some modern tech to compete with stuff like the 'chetler.

could be, I only saw one that was a pow ski and it looked sick, if they made one that was the same ski but narrower it could be an awesome everyday ski.
Saw Armada, Line and Volkl's nee lineups today at NEWRS. The Line graphics look much better, more toned down and neutral than previous years. Armada is similar for some, the AR7s have the best graphic yet IMO.

Yeah they're all part owners. But say if wiley is 33 when he gets his new pro model and if they run for 5 years, then he'd be 38 when its over and done with. Kinda wierd to see wiley rip BC freestyle into late 30s. But hey, our sport is young and not a lot of people have "retired" yet so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. My guess is that his new pro model will be something more directional big Mtn/pow

I know you guys have separate dev teams, but is this the same material that sally uses for the xmax/xpro boots? never had to do anything too outrageous in real life but have heard of miracles being performed with an oven and some foam
it was asked over on tgr, but with so many touring boots from other manufacturers being aimed at the low to mid-low volume crowd, how come you guys didn't do anything lightweight that fits higher volume out of the box?

You are correct in that we have separate boot development teams for both Salomon and Atomic. They are in France doing their thing, we are in Austria doing our thing.
We share basically the same process (heating a shell and then using your body's natural standing pressure to exactly widen the boot only where it is needed) but we use different materials to achieve a similar effect. For example, Salomon's material can only be used in solid (mainly black) colors, whereas we can use either solid or transparent. It's a difference that you can see when simply looking at the boots. We wanted the same properties, but not be limited in the colors we use.
The decision to make a 98mm last for the new Backland was mainly twofold: if you want to make the lightest boot in a category, it needs to be narrow. Wider boots simply weigh more since they have more material. Second, Europe is by far the biggest market for touring and they generally have narrower feet than North America, or at least expect a tighter fit. Obviously there are wider feet in Europe, but it's a general statement. And like I said in a post above, I think many people will be surprised how well the boot fits despite its on-paper-width of 98mm.
Looks like the cat is out of the bag on the B-Dog jacket! I'll post a few HQ shots of Phil in the jacket this week, and maybe tease the colourways sometime before SIA.
