Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 5s

My S3 has died and I am trying to decide between the S5 and 5s. I really like the iOS platform and the whole texting on iPhone over Galaxy. But I've heard the galaxy has better battery life. Either way I'll be happy with each phone. I figured I'd let NS choose for me...I'm taking the results of the poll and using that to decide for me today at 8:00 P.M. EST!

I can't really speak from experience with either... Being that I own an iPhone 5, and have never used a galaxy, but after being on the iOS platform for nearly as long as it has existed, I can't ever see myself going any other way. Its just very easy to use. I'm sure the Galaxy is though as well! I would like to hear from the other side as well, because I'm due for an upgrade soon..

I like my S3 a lot! but the charging port recently broke it and I could buy a brand new phone for double the cost so I thought I should just get an upgrade. S3 is easy to use but my biggest pet peeve is texting takes about 30 more seconds to get a text and for group chats you have to use mobile data to receive texts..I'll be happy with either device.

The good thing about the iphone though is that it has better standby time than I think every phone. Pretty much, that means if it's locked in your pocket for like 3 hours, it only drops like 1%where as the galaxy, probably like 10%.

From my experience, iPhones always last longer. I can't say for certain considering the 5s hasn't been around long, but I have a 4s in my pocket that works pretty much perfect despite being close to 3 years old. I'm starting to think I should upgrade though...

I recently switched to a galaxy s5, its superior to the iPhone in almost every single way. It did take about two weeks to get used to the new layout though.

All my friends with iPhone 4s/5/5s all have terrible battery life in the cold. I can stream Pandora and take a ton of pics and video in the freezing cold all day, where as all the iPhone buddies phones will be dead by about 2 under the same circumstances. My one buddy has a 5s with the battery life case and his lasts as long as mine does. Constant use from 630am until about 5.

One thing ive come to realize is that its all about what OS you like more... None of that other shit even matters on a phone. unless the phones processing speeds and memory are comparable to a potato. Who gives a fuck that one phone has a faster processor by .2 Ghz. Phones arnt built to last. That processor speed is probably beginning to decrease from the minute you turn the phone on.



Just buy the iPhone if you like iOS better then kitkat or what ever snack androids newest os is named after.



With that being said I have an S5 and love it.

I have had an iphone since the first ones came out for verizon 4 years ago. Just bought a galaxy s5 last week and I absolutely love it. Glad I chose it over the 5s

You can easily rice or custom roms an android phone, also they have sd card slots. Apple is also a bitch about resetting your phone when you build up 3 gigs of 'other' on the phone and can't get rid of it.

That's because it's made for 13 year old girls with autism. The S5 is a man's phone and has a lot more functionality.

i personally like iphone much better because it is less confusing and if you have an ipod which since you ski im thinking you might, then you can just put all of your music onto your phone. It also doesnt have a removable back so if you drop it, then the back doesnt come off and the battery doesnt fall out

i can back on this, got the 5s and it was at 100% then 99% for like 2 hours today while i was fishing

no way the new s5 and my note 3 will go on standby for days, just like an iphone.


phones these days will basically act the same, obviously bigger phones like the s5 and note 3 will have longer lasting batteries overall because of their size. My note 3 battery is 3800mAh while an iphone 5s battery is 1570. Obviously the note 3 has twice the screen to power as well but there is a reason the galaxies have "better" battery life because theyre bigger phones. With the iphone 6 (whatever they call the bigger ones) will have epic battery life too.


Like many have said, its down to what OS you like the most, tech is plateauing these days so every device will be fast af and such compared to 3 or 4 years ago.

The iphone is great if you just use your phone as a phone and for internet because it's very simple and intuitive, but the samsung will be able to do more technical stuff

I haven't owned either phone but I have messed with both. Get the S5! Better battery life, bigger screen.. Unless you're going to be texting a lot like said above. Then you should probably get the iPhone. But in all other situations get the S5!

I used to have an iPhone, but I just switched to the S5 because the screen was so much bigger. After playing around with the S5, I just couldn't go back to the tiny screen on the iPhone. I do like iOS a little bit more than android though.

Op just choose one. Samsung is built by south korean geniuses and apples built by asian american geniuses. Ive got a 4s and love it, but you camt go wrong in a choice between samsung and apple

any android phone can do this really. just root it and underclock the cpu like crazy for when you're not using tasks that need it (so pretty much 99% of what you do)

I have a Sony phone that looses maybe 2% battery life for 7-8 hours overnight. I get 4 days no problem with ample usage of texting, calling, listening to music, and browsing. This is with a TFT screen too. Right now it's at 82% after some decent usage today and it was unplugged this morning at 6 am.

This. Samsungs are much more customizable for what you want to use it for. Also to, the S5 is somewhat resistant to the elements.

My iPhone 5s is nice I like the vividness of the iPhone compared to Samsung plus Kim Jong Un owns samsung so they are actually bombs . I have the G form case it was a good case until it shit it's self. but it's squishy so it's ok.

Had my S5 for about 1 full day and the battery kicks ass! Happy with my choice and 5s would of been just as good of a choice! Thanks for the info in the thread and shit

i think a comparable phone to the 5s is the s3. really, mines like 3 years old, and swims circles around iphones and literally has been submerged in water. so i can only imagine the s5 is even better.

It all depends what pants you wear. I wear normal pants and shorts and my note 3 fits fine. The note 3 and s5 are so thin it's barely noticeable.

I'm really stuck between a HTC M8 and an S5, reviews says that the M8 is a better overall package which I like but the S5 is water resistant, has finger print scanner, screen goes dimmer, and USB 3.0. The only thing I don't like about galaxy is that samsung kies is bloody useless on a Mac.

Why do you need your computer? Google music is all wireless, I haven't connected my android phone to a computer in 4 years.

nope, just download google music. it lets you put up to 20000 songs in the cloud, and you can just stream them or redownload them to your phone through that.
