I might be in the wrong forum, but I was really looking into buying the 50mm lens for cinematography. The f/ 1.8 aperture is supposed to be well in low-light settings, but I didn't know if anyone had any complaints or anything of that nature. Thanks, guys.
Worst made canon lens in their entire lineup. Buy something else or the v1 with metal mount if you can find one but even then you should still get something else.
not at all worth it. AF is useless on it, focus ring is awful, and the overall quality isn't that great. If you want a fun cheap 50mm, get the helios 44-2 on ebay for about $20 (you will need an adapter), or a pentax super or s-m-c takumar 50mm f1.4 (last I check they were around the price of the canon).
I had one on a 550D/T2i, my biggest problem was with the camera's "cropped sensor" you end up really zoomed in all the time. Was great for certain photo's though, needed a ND filter as well to shoot wide open when it's bright out. Auto focus was noisy so not great for videos.
I would say it's worth getting one and having a go, if it's not to your liking then stick it on eBay.
50mm f/1.8 from my experience sucks on crop sensors for certain types of filming. Also pretty shitty in terms of build. But, if you have the cash definitely try and pick up the f/1.4 or check out craigslist. Picked up a f/1.4 for $150 barely touched.
