Construction work.

I'm a scrawny, fairskinned, scary haired 17 year old. I just got offered a job digging ditches more or less I would guess for 8-10 hour days, for six months.

I really need the cash, my parents really need the cash too. I'm fresh out of highschool, barely graduated and I really feel like I need to do something. The thing is I don't know if I can withstand a month and a half of 35 degree weather daily, working. Then again if I quit smoking i'm sure I would be in completely fine shape.

Wut do, take full time construction for next six months and hate my life for that little bit longer anyways or just scrounge enough money for ski season and bum hard?

I think im gonna take the job.

I have until monday to respond.

starting wage is low $20's/hr so pretty much x2 minimum wage.

first job.




uggh. Should I take it?

Isn't bad? Out of HS you'd be hard pressed to find many jobs paying that much. Unless you went to some sort of vocational HS.

I guess it was how I read it in my head.

Yeah it took me a bit to get up there, I don't even know what minimum wage avg is anymore across the US.

take it. the job will get easier as you go along cause youll end up way more stronger and musculaer ;). plus 20$ an hour from 8-5 is a VERY good wage

$20/hr at 17 is ridiculous. This shouldn't even be a question, there's millions of people who would take this job from you in a second and do the work with pride. Stop being a bitch and questioning if the works going to be too hard or it's going to be to hot and do what you've gotta do.

Take the fucking job. At that rate youre looking at 200 dollars a day before taxes. The biggest paycheck I've ever recieved at my summer job is 230 before taxes. 230 for the entire week.

I work as a bridge construction engineer, so I'm out on projects inspecting a lot. I don't actually do the work but I sit there and watch people work all day and I can honestly say that I have the utmost respect for people that work in construction. It isn't easy work, you'll probably want to die everyday after work for like the first 2 months. These guys work 10-12 hours, 5-7 days a week in like 100 degree weather, I honestly do not know how they do it, and they do it their whole life.

Most construction workers seem to take a lot of pride in their work, which is really cool. Be prepared to take a lot of shit, they are usually awesome dudes but a little rough around the edges, and always give people a hard time for shits and giggles.

It's not an easy job but I would take it if I was you, it will definitely show you what hard work is, and you'll be making decent scrillzzzz.

you must work short hours... I work 53 hours a week, make about $320 a week after taxes. and that's minimum wage

hop on that asap. i just got offered a job doing "demolition" for 11/hr... which beats my 9$/hr job working at a farm. I was happy hearing 11$....

Take the job. Regardless of what you end up doing in life, I think it's super important to spend some time working some kind of manual labour job. Definitely gives you an appreciation for working with your hands and just putting some physical effort into work.

I work in a nice, air conditioned office now, but spent four summers landscaping (lots of paving stone work, digging out yards, planting stuff, building walls/water features, etc) and absolutely loved it. I love my job now, but few things are as good as coming home after a long, hard days work outside.

being tired at the end of the day because you worked hard all day feels 100x better than being tired at the end of the day because you've done nothing but stare at a screen all day. That's the worst part of having an office job if you ask me.

That's what I'm worried about! I'm trying to getting an internship next summer and ultimately a desk job after school but I currently do beer delivery during the summer and I know I'm gonna miss working those 12 hour days from 5 to 5.

If I were you I would have already taken the job. And working outside in hot weather isn't so bad. Just drink lots and lots of water.

$20/hr is pretty standard for a regular labour job here in BC. I've been payed between $15/hr up to $29/hr for my current job, mostly around the $19-$22 range. No education required.

Start an apprenticeship son. you'll be done in 3-4 years, make $50 an hour and be able to fall back on it the rest of your life. Plumber or electrician BAM.
