john18061806Don't argue. It gets you nowhere.
If you think you need 10-15 minutes to get your shot, stall them or play it off all innocent and ask nicely if you could try a few more times (depending on the person and/or spot they may or may not let you continue).
If you already got a good shot, or won't get it for a few more hours. Just leave, find another spot, and don't be a bitch about it. When you leave, clean up and be nice (otherwise they might knob the rail or do other things to keep you from coming back).
If cops get involved, be honest, respectful, and composed. They'll listen to a down to earth skier more than a crazed, sour old lady.
Whatever you do, don't try to be a badass and argue because it doesn't impress anyone and it just wrecks urban skiing for everyone else. If you put off the image that we're assholes, we'll get kicked out of every spot regardless of how we act. More rails will get knobbed. Urban skiing is parasitic in nature- taking advantage of structures to ski on without doing anything in return. Successful parasites don't kill their hosts, so don't be a dick even if the guy kicking you out is a dick.
I'm not experienced at all but at least I know enough about how to keep urban skiing alive. I hit about 4-5 spots this year and haven't hit urban before that. It's unbelievably fun and if you can get that vibe to rub off on civilians they won't mind at all. In fact, the last spot I hit this year I was having speed issues and I got a random civilian to help out with pulling the bungee and he was stoked on being able to help!
Sorry I have to write an essay but I'm bored.
SteezyJibberUrban is not unbelievably fun
john18061806In my opinion it is, I'm not quite sure why I like it so much. My favorite days skiing were days I hit something, even though it can be frustrating and extreme painful at times, at the end of the day it feels better than a day in the park. Probably the thought that you're doing something unique, anyone can go lap the park but not a lot of skiers can go out and just do urban, it takes work. Urban shots beat park shots any day.
