Backpacking through Europe

Hit up southern France, just because it's bloodywell gorgeous. Other than that, I can't be of any particular help because I've only ever been to Europe a couple times, each time only for a couple weeks. Have a good time though man.

my sister did that for 6 weeks at the beginning of last summer...invest in a euro-rail pass...best way of travel...bring money on your atm card...easiest way of getting cash, then if you need more someone can always add more...other than that, go to amsterdam

Also, it would be usefull if you had some contacts across Europe (it makes it easier to get a good nights sleep, and it's less expensive)

If not... just Go for it. I would love to backpack across Europe, except I'm too young, stupid, broke, in University, and I would probably die.

i spent 5 weeks there this summer. england, ireland, belgium, holland, lux, germany, france. all i used was my school backpack, which was nice cause it was easier getting around without a huge bag or suitcase. my fav spots were dublin (go to the temple bar district), chamonix(fucking amazing), and rothenburg aub der tauber (sp?) rothenburg is this killer town built in an old castle. i also did the biggies like paris, london, amsterdam, ect. amsterdam was killer, but i could only take so much weed, booze, and hookers. if you're there, go to the monet museum, and take the heiniken experience. if you're in dublin, tour the guiness factory. it's awesome. i just got a student 6 country railpass. it was a pretty good deal. one thing that was nice to have along was my little flashlight that attatches to your head, kinda like a headlight. i only brought 2 pairs of pants, 3 t's, a button up nicer shirt, a hoodie, and like 3 pair of sox and boxers. make sure you wear really comfy shoes, cause you will be walking a lot.

it helps a lot to have a cell phone or book ahead online for hostels, cause many times when you get to a town after riding trains all day, it's hard to find a decent place to stay. and like he said above, just use your atm card. i even got an extra one in case i lost mine.

if you're staying in hostels (and you should be) book them ahead of time... it's tempting to just wing it, but trust me, a lot of these places get filled up, and you could end up screwing yourself. make sure you have at least a tentative plan that includes some places to sleep... you can always change it later. also, in countries without great rail systems ( like ireland) book a backpacker bus tour. they are fun as hell, and you'll meet a ton of girls from all over the place.
