So theres this teenaged girl from Texas who is taking a bunch of flack for going on safaris in Africa and hunting so called "exotic animals" like lions and leopards. The only reason people are flipping out at her, even though these animals are hunted all the time, is because she's a young attractive innocent looking chick. Now everyone is threatening her and treating her like a villain. I can't help but laugh at these peoples complete lack of knowledge on the science of wildlife management/conservation. Like how completely oblivious they are to the fact that hunting is one of the biggest industries in Africa when it comes to feeding the impoverished, supplementing the economy, and maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

Now there is all these petitions out to have her remove her hunting pictures off her face book page. These people who are against hunting are seriously oblivious, especially if they are people who eat meat. If they did even just a little bit of research on the topic, than they'd realize how dumb they are.

When they hunt on these game refuges there the guides pick out the old and/or sick animals that probably arent going to last long anyways. And when an animal is harvested the meat is usually donated to nearby tribes. These self righteous fucks dont even realize that her hunting is actually helping starving children way mire than all these low lifes "share if you care about starving children" bullshit posts on facebook combined

They are on reservations. You have a waiting list and pay tons for the tags which go back to help the reservation further help protect the majority of these animals. How is that not cool? Get mad at poachers, not the people that do this the right way...

I was always against killing apex predators and big game like lions and leopards, but maybe that comes from having worked with big cats in the past. I have a respect for these animals that she appears to lack, though obviously it's hard to tell from a photo.

I guess I would ask what the point of doing this is? It seems like people just want to be like "Oh yeah, look how badass I am, some guide tracked down a lion for me so I could shoot it in the face!"

I definitely wouldn't crucify this girl for it though, the most endangered species shown in these pictures is the lion and they are only considered vulnerable at the moment.

And if you hunt why wouldn't it be cool to shoot some of the biggest predators on the planet?

I know I know I know. I never said what Kendall is doing is necessarily wrong... just that I'm not a fan. Sorry my comment was unclear. Obviously I'm more angry at poachers then some teenage girl who hunts legally, that just isn't the topic here. I think it's stupid how much attention this girl has gained and the majority of the people getting so riled up about this are idiots, but personally I just don't support hunting big cats.

Leopards are near threatened, so they aren't in the best of shape. African Elephant is vulnerable. Once again, I am (sort of) a hunter myself, and usually have no problem killing animals for food, and do not agree with the fucks sharing this all over Facebook.

You could ask me if you want lol. I've gone hunting there twice. I didn't hunt the kind of trophy animals she did, mostly small antelope and wildebeest, but I did encounter those animals while I was there. Its so much different than the US, it almost felt like I was in a Dr. Suess book. Everything down to plants and vegetation were different.

You of all people I would expect a slightly different response from. I'm with you that the overzealous response from non-hunters or people unaware/unacquainted with hunting/circle of life/Simba/ecology/management are often times out of place. But simply glorifying the killing of animals that live in already precarious times primarily for glory and self aggrandisement? You're (not you but people like blond-face) also (as has already been pointed out) doing this on meticulously managed game preserves where the whole point is to make you feel good and capable. You're coached into everything. You're not set out "into the bush" and magically claimed your prey. It's a pretty picture, but ethically its dubious and puts the whole beauty of hunting in a poor light. It's about showing off a final product (e.g. a dead animal whose majesty is removed by the high caliber bullet you toasted it with from many, many yards off), NOT about the skill and tactics of an experienced woodsman/huntsman/huntswoman. It's hunting as product. And that's sad.

I said you because you're an outdoorsman of sorts it seems. Someone who I imagine has reverence and respect for hunting. And would be able to see the difference between hunting and hunting on a closed range purely to kill trophy animals.

To my it's symbolic/emblematic of hunting purely for sport and glory, which is kind of shallow.

So the picture finally loaded for me. I get it. I'm happy that was the context. But I still just think it's weird to glorify game management like that. While the death of the animal serves a clear ecological purpose I don't get how posing with you kill and smiling does much to promote the actual management of a preserve. Maybe it's just marketing, maybe it's just about money, maybe it's about glory, but I think there are some higher principles at work like land stewardship and ethics at work here. To my mind, it would be a moment for pause and reflection, we have to manage this preserve in this way because the animals are poached or lose habitat to poor planning. I dunno, it's a weird subject and there's a lot going on. /end

My favorite part of this is that most of the people posting blogs talking about how she should be be stuffed and hung from a wall instead of the animals she's killing, are the same ones that belong to the "anything you can do I can do better" brand of feminism. There are only two possible reasons that this girl is getting all of this negative attention. 1. She is an attractive young girl, 2. She is rich/privileged. Considering there are plenty of much more privileged people hunting big game in Africa, #1 has to be the reason this is getting so many people riled up. Therefore, all of these women that talk all the time about how women can do anything that men can do, are also the same ones telling a young girl that she can't hunt big game in Africa because she is a cute young woman. It's hypocrisy at its finest, and it is absolutely cracking me up.

Definitely not my thing. I have too much respect for lions an elephants and could never kill one--so it is hard for me to understand the mentality.

Trust me, this teenage girl is not single handedly responsible for the sustainability of South Africa, and she isn't doing it as a favor to the African reserve-- those are just the justifcations she uses to support what she enjoys doing-- which is fair enough, but lets not pretend like she is over there doing this out of necessity.
