Honestly man style wins in my book.

Last season a father with his two sons was at my home resort.
The older one was about 7-8 years old and the smaller one about 4 I guess.
They both did backflips over a 9ft jump.
And yes, they were from Swiss too.

If having fun for these kids is learning new technical tricks, I'm ok with that. There's a million ways to have fun skiing, to each their own. The thing is, if there's one kid who's super good but their parents are pushing him and being super strict, then they're taking the fun part away and that's just sad for the kid, even though he's super good.

i have a friend with aspergers syndrome named Jacob, he really didn't have many friends.. Buy when he went to online school all he did is play video games.

it seems that kids in adolescence all share one trait: the need to stand out and fit in.

We're seeing a huge influx of talent right now because of the implementation of high performance programs, air bag and water ramp training. Kids are learning in safer environments and are benefitting from better trained coaches.

So true. Its really the getting coached that blows my mind. Many of us grew to love and progress this sport because of all the good times we had with our friends pushing each other. These little goons see the top guys and want to be good so they have mommy and daddy bankroll lessons so they can learn the tricks.

They sure as hell learn the tricks fast, but their style lacks inspiration (cough Nick Gaper cough cough) and they turn into skiing gymnasts

So coming from someone who coaches. What is wrong with encouraging a youngster? It's what your teachers do, its how you expand the minds of the future of our country and our sport.

Most of coaching is encouragement. Kids will learn on their own, yet they need help sometimes. Every kid I've ever coached has always been incredibly stoked on the learning environment they were in and having the biggest smile on their face while doing it.

And Nick Goepper is the most talented person I've ever seen with skis on his feet in the park. I saw it when he was 11 years old and skiing by himself hiking the park from 9am till 1am.

Go have fun skiing. Do your own thing. Stop being a fucking bitch and worrying about others having fun. You obviously aren't going anywhere with that attitude so stop hating on the kids that put the effort in to have someone teach them.

Honestly a lot of the people doing the huge tricks actually have a shit ton of style. Maybe not on the trip they throw in a contest but do you really think they're going to struggle with that flat 5?

Look at how stylish dubs have gotten from before. I know the more rotation you add the harder that is but I'm just saying that a lot of the people pushing these big tricks are oozing with style on the easier tricks.

I'm not trying to say I find spin to win aesthetically pleasing but I'm not going to hate on progression. One of the raddest things is pushing the boundaries of what is possible even just in terms of yourself. When a kid tries to learn 450s off a rail you don't say. YOUR STYLE IS GARBAGE STOP TRYING. You have to push the boundaries to improve.


There has always been sketchy style out there. Even on the small spins. I remember everyone and their whack ballerina 7's. IF anything the style is better these days and that's BECAUSE of the progression. IF a 5 is an easy trick it's a lot easier to get lofty and float that shit than if it's the hardest trick in the world.

A lot of the people doing the biggest tricks love the small floaters just as much as you. You aren't going to win a major contest with(Which you can debate and try and change) but that doesn't mean most of those athletes don't get down on style.

Honestly before the dubs the amount of flat rotation was getting pretty ridiculous. People were hucking like tops.

Idk. Why can we all just have fun.



And as far as the thread there are a ton of kids killing it. With all the programs these days, the sport being accessible as ever it's going to keep going up. The boundaries are being pushed at the highest level to where kids at the low levels aren't afraid to try tricks that ad one point were impossible. Those tricks like fs 450's out are stock tricks for even the little shredders in the park these days. Add in ski camps, airbags etc and it's going to keep getting more wild. Am I jealous of all the opportunities? Hell yeah.But I'm stoked that all these kids can learn shit without having to destroy themselves like before.

No longer is it all about fuck it and huck it on east coast ice for learning tricks. IS it moving toward gymnastics sure but there is always that skiing route. I don't feel like we should strip down the sport to make it more pure. IF a kid can learn a trick without breaking bones and fucking up their brain I think that's awesome.

Those are only some of the super well known kids. Mark was pretty underrated in the skiing community until super-unknown. Just think of how many other kids there are that might even be better. I know a couple kids that are absolutely killing it at such a young age and they don't get the recognition they deserve.

Andri Ragettli is unreal. The next generation is gonna be mindblowing

So funny that people just assume any kid thats good at something from a young age has strict parents and doesn't enjoy it. I know 2 of these kids mentioned and it is the exact opposite, they all froth over skiing and do it completely by choice. They are good because they love skiing and have skied so much.
