Could triples come to the pipe? [Discussion]

Would actually like to talk about this. It's been on my mind a lot as a pipe skier and honestly? I feel like triples should have already been thrown in the pipe. But why haven't they? With most every pipe skier, myself included having doubles at under 10 feet, why hasn't a triple been thrown?

But when triples do become a trick that is being thrown what's going to happen to pipe skiing? There is only so much you can do when it comes to a halfpipe and I feel as if halfpipe is the future aerials, where everyone is doing the same tricks and judging is just based on who is doing them better.

And if triples are something that come to pipe should a bigger zaug be built for a 26' pipe?


Just been on my mind and interested in seeing what you guys have to say.

Airbags, yes. Actually in the pipe? no.

Riddle, Roland and Wise all have triples in an airbag, David's is switch. With the olympic pipe being terrible quality i could see why no one would want to throw one.

Pipe IMO is a shit ton harder than slope style. You are landing on an surface that makes you close to perpendicular to the ground on the landing, instead of a natural ride away like off of a jump. This is why it makes sense that triples are only just getting started in slope and we can still expect 1-2 more seasons until a triple is thrown in a pipe. /claim

Its gonna happen in the next few years. There are people who will be able to to it, it's just a matter of when the time is right.

halfpipe skiing actually is the future aerials, because pipes are standardized, there should be more creative halfpipes or they should be on the middle of slopestyle courses so it doesnt get so boring

That's exactly what I'm saying. So once triples come into play it will be a different aerials. Which sucks. I mean even now it's the best two dub corks, one more double and a couple other standard tricks. So what's the future of pipe skiing?

What do people think about the danger level of half pipe? It's arguably much more dangerous than slopestyle. Do you think that is what is holding people back?

I could see it. If the top pros were doing triples, the par and sub-par skiers would be more apt to try them and then be more apt to wreck themselves. I don't pipe skiing is quite at the level yet where everyone in the top competitions are safely capable of throwing a triple in the pipe, unlike slopestyle, where pretty much everyone can and does.

It'll take some time but I think it will start to become more of the norm like in slopestyle. The same thing was said about doubles, wasn't it?

i would bet that there will be at least one trip thrown next season in the pipe and gets caught on film etc. prob guna be some random euro skier or something ha. just got-a wait and see, but i would not be surprised if one gets caught on film for the first time this upcoming season. who know tho..

If you were to add another 10 feet, it would go faster than your lower 10 feet. Not a great explaination but I think you should see what I'm saying. Also, the thrd cork will go slower.

Yes it is much more dangerous and that could be a reason. But I don't know, I think a large part of it might be kind of an unspoken rule amongst pipe skiers. There aren't very many of them, and I think if someone does a triple that everyone will have to do one leaving a larger area open for injuries and such, but also If someone was to throw a triple at X games they would almost no-doubtibly win.

There's a limit to how big you can go. Honestly not sure what it is as most places abandoned there pipes and I rarely get in one these days but it's getting close to it.

Making them bigger for higher air will peak out. On a 1/4 pipe you can take a stupid amount of speed into that one hit. In the pipe you have to maintain that speed. The big advantage is the downhill aspect.

Honestly interested to see if it ever get's bumped up to 24' and how the affects the ride.

I just wish more places kept there 14 footers. Those things are so much fun. Whiteface just got rid of there 18'.

I don't even know what the hell I'm talking about so I'm going to abort this post and go to bed.
