HP123Sounds like you're just making excuses for the cop. I by no means hate the police, I simply don't trust them. Cops need to be held accountable, they are NOT above the law. And being on the phone while driving is illegal in some states fyi
HP123Cops need to be held accountable, they are NOT above the law.
Turd.Fergusonthe issue here is, the cop isn't even a bad one. he pulled the trucker over because he was getting honked at for no apparent reason, he admitted he was going over 70 mph, which is the highway speed limit. My guess is if the trucker was going 65 and the cop was going 75 it could show the cop was going faster than the trucker with a 10 mph difference but the cop was only going 5 over. No one pulls people over for going 5 over the speed limit, and studies show that police are human beings too. As for the cell phone, thats kind of an issue considering that Illinois just got a law at the beginning of the year saying that you cannot be holding any type of PDA cellular device or what not. That is pretty inexcusable considering distracted driving is a leading cause of car accidents in the US...
Sparknotes: The trucker was going 5 under and cop was going 5 over. Police are humans. Cellphone use is inexcusable. Trucker was kind of a dick but had a decent point. Cop was reasonably nice throughout the entire ordeal so im not seeing why police are so bad.
.Hugo.Not for the police officers...
Barefootin_FiendIn Illinois (where this took place), police officers are exempt from the law prohibiting the use of cell phones while driving...as are emergency first responders.
So the cop wasn't doing anything that he would get in trouble for. He could have been a douche and still written the ticket...probably could have found something else on that truck to violate the guy for....license plate light out, etc., but was a pretty nice guy about it all.
.FRY.they think they are and will try to intimidate you. but as long as you paid attention in cit ed class you can bring them down to your level.
HP123I don't think it's possible for anyone to get down to your level.
speedinA police officer and emergency responders are allowed to use their cell phone for things related to doing their job. If it is found that officer is using his cell phone for personal use, they are are held to the same set of laws and regular citizens, and should be reprimanded.
This video is hilarious. Illinois just finally changed their very old eves doping laws, that previously prohibited recording of police officers with sound.
What happened here is really funny and simple. The cop was speeding and talking on his cell phone completely unrelated to his job.
Which is why his attitude completely changed when he found out he was being recorded. Which is why he came back with a safety inspection form instead of a ticket.
The cop didn't know if the trucker had footage of him actually speeding and on his phone. So, to defuse the situation he tried to be buddy's with the trucker and came back with safety inspection form. lol
If the trucker filed a complaint with ISP, and it was found at that time of day he was on his phone unrelated to his job, he is supposed to be reprimanded and held to the same standards as everyone else.
Proving the speeding one is hard because the trucker doesn't have a radar.
HP123Only for police related business, if you actually read this thread I stated that he was probably using it for personal use, that's why he backed off.
.FRY.good one bud
.Hugo.Oh i didnt realize you were in the officers car with him. Good to know

HP123Ah, the kid that just can't seem to get enough of me.
I actually find it funny, instead of responding with something that puts me in my place, they "rate " my comment like it actually means something.
.FRY.it's actually just a friendly way of saying "fuck off"
HP123Feel free to leave the thread. If it makes you angry you can waste your time elsewhere! Since you apparently have no life outside the internet , I recommend buzzfeed, I think that'll suit you well.
SideShowBobWhat the hell is wrong with the officer? He clearly knew there was no way the guy was going to stop arguing, and since he didn't want to fight/the guy didn't really do a substantial crime, he just kept the peace. There's no need to argue about a thing like that, and he chose not to. Props to him

Barefootin_FiendThat's how he should have approached it instead of honking like a jack ass because ultimately, he has no idea whether or not the cop is on an official police call and it's not his place to investigate.

HP123that's what lights and sirens are for, dumbass.
Barefootin_Fiendwait, so you're saying that the cop needs to turn on his lights and sirens to call back to the station/another officer/contact to check on ....*insert any number of fucking reasons a cop might have to make a phone call that isn't an emergency*?
HP123cops have radios you fucking idiot.
If a cop is speeding I believe they should turn on light/sirens.
and it's pretty obvious this cop wasn't using his phone for official business. If he was, he would've given a ticket!!!!!!
HP123hahaa most people on this site don't trust the police!!!!!!
is this saying something?

SideShowBob1. That's complete bullshit, and would take away the whole purpose of the siren.
2. The cop was most likely on his radio, and the idiot truck driver thought it was a phone.
3. Again, the cop was just trying to be nice after he realized the guy wouldn't stop arguing.
90% of the reason people hate police is because weed is illegal, and kids do dumb things and don't think they will get in trouble. Keep hating on police, and when you're getting mugged on the side of the street beg for them to come and you'll never say shit about them again. Police risk their lives to save peoples asses everyday. Sick of people bashing police because they get in trouble for doing dumb things.

speedinCome to Illinois. The most corrupt police state in the U.S. ISP will look for ANYTHING to pull you over.

TOAST.There are numerous reasons why a phone would be used over a radio for police work.
HP123Guarantee the trucker would've taken his "unlawful use of horn" ticket to court because of his video, and his own personal dashcam. The cop that issued the ticket would appear as well. And yes, the cop did do multiple things wrong but I shouldn't have to explain that to you.
zzzskizzzGive me three, whenever I've had my ID called in its always been done over radio.
