Just get him to bounce on the trampoline normally go behind him and as he is jumping up kick the back of his legs as hard as you can. This should cause him to flip around backwards proving that it is possible for him to do a backflip.
I couldn't physically backflip for a long time on trampolines. it would either end up as a wackflip or a backwards dive to faceplant. something about not turning my head when I flip has always made me uneasy.
