Graduating college with honors

I am going into my last year of college and I am on the bubble of graduating with honors and not. Has anyone else faced this battle?

Its a good thing to have to get a job in an entry level position. But literally, after that one singular point in your life, it means exactly nothing.


Dont really sweat it. the job market is good. Make sure you know your shit, can work smart AND work hard and everything else will fall into place.

I was on the borderline of moving up a decimal point (like from a 3.58 to a 3.6 for example) and I made it my last semester. It probably will never make a difference but it felt like a great accomplishment. Its probably a similar deal with honors, it won't matter in the long run but it will feel great if you get it. Also, people often use it in their bio, resume, or CV so it will show up at some point. Best of luck.

Depends on what field you're in, what honors requires you to do, and what you want to do. If you're in the sciences and want to go to grad school and do research, it could be a pretty nice thing to do. If you do it, it should be for you, though. Do it because you want the challenge, rather than because it'll put you ahead. It's a cool accomplishment and feels great to turn in.

For me in my senior year, it required taking one course for "honors" credit and finishing my thesis, which was the culmination of 2.5 years of research under on of my professors. It was a lot of work but was totally worth it IMO.

This, and even for entry level, it really makes little to no difference for getting a job in my experience. Getting some real-life work experience as an intern while in college is way more important than your GPA or graduating with honors. Plus, interning helps you network with professionals in your field, that's how I got my first engineering job. People are way more likely to hire you if someone they know and trust says good things about you. That means a lot more to employers than what a sheet of paper says about you.

i finished grad school with honors. obviously, the only time it matters is when trying to get your foot in the door at a company/firm. definitely helped land me some great interviews. it'll be on your resume forever, so i'd do everything possible to keep that gpa as high as you can.

No it's more like I don't want to put in that much effort to get a 4.0. Engineering is hard for some people and easy for others, personally for me it's pretty fucking hard and I have to put a lot of effort into it. Maybe you should jump of your high horse brahhh.

I'm with Mr. Swanson. Engineering is hard as shit. I would personally rather balance my life and remain active skiing and biking and working part time than spend every waking minute studying to get A's. That would be nice but I bust my ass for B's and I'm happy.

Almost every engineer (from aeronautics to civil) I have spoken with or am friends with has made it quite clear that:

-ability to communicate ideas
-applied experience
-willingness to learn

are the 3 biggest things to landing jobs/interviews/internships. Oh, and connections always help. Network, be smart, be humble, and know your shit past a textbook basically.

I know kids who were hard fucking partiers that got honors in engineering. Dont act like its impossible to get honors in engineering. Just admit youre lazy instead of using your major as an excuse

As I said its easy for some hard for others. Some kids have to spend 6hrs a night on homework others 1.

All I can speak for is myself and I'm saying I have to put a shit ton of effort in to get straight A's. I'd rather put a bit less effort in if it means I'm able to ski, skate, chill with friends and get mostly B's maybe a C or two.
