unfortunately, I live in West Virginia and can not get my hands on this beer unless I drive 7+ hours. I am looking for someone in the Vermont area who is willing to do a trade for craft beer or cash so I can try this beer. I have never wanted to try a beer more than this one.

I groundscored an ht outside of the rochester show. The fall had it at perfect temp. Unopened just chilling on a bridge. Unfortunately I was trying to go in right then and had just chugged some beers. Ended up drinking half and giving the other half to a homeless guy. He was diggin it.

I mean is it the only good beer out there and everything else is trash? hell no, but imo it is a great beer. I'm not about to drive to burlington to grab some but when I get the chance to grab a couple from somebody I'm down.
Honestly I really like smuttynose and that's way more accessible for me and I'm just as happy drinking some of those.

Yeah this thread blows my mind, i live in UTAH and i still can find at least 8 beers I really enjoy drinking... how is there this one beer that everyone wants? I guarantee there are 100 beers in vt that are just as good.

Absolutely not, it's excellent. However, no beer is good enough to be worthy of the hype this stuff gets. You can get beer of roughly equivalent quality without going to the lengths people appear willing to go to for this one.
Personally I think these demolish it. But that's just because of personal preference.

I think it's something like $4 or just under for a 16 ouncer.
It def is worth trying if you can get one. If not there are plenty of other fish in the sea.
Really smooth though. It's refreshingly drinkable like a chocolate milkshake and 8 percent. They did a nice job on it.
If you can have somebody fly out with one it's worth trying but you aren't going to drink it, sell everything you own and move to vermont. It's good but I don't think it will change your life

Its ranked the #1 beer in the world on Beer Advocate and Rate Beer. I had one a couple weeks ago, and it was a fantastic beer. I don't think its worth going to crazy lengths to buy it, but it is a great beer.

I mean thats great good for them, but beer preference is simply that, a preference. Sure thats how most things win awards, but it blows my mind this person is considering driving 7 hours to buy a beer.
I can think of plenty of beers that sound just like how you're describing it to me, doesn't impress me.

I haven't tried it, but I have to imagine a big part of the hype around it is it's so limited production. It's probably a pretty good beer, but a lot of it has got to be everyone at beeradvocate jerking each other off because they managed to get their hands on a bottle. So they can go to their bearded friends and say "oh you haven't tried it? It's the best beer in the world"
It has like next to no bad reviews, which makes me not believe the good ones. Mostly, I just hate the people at beer advocate.

It's really not that hard to get your hands on. Especially if you're rating beers for a living. Nice hipster rant though.

Unfortunately this isn't remotely true. Trust me, I wish it was! This shit is delicious. Yes it has tons of hype, but there's a reason. It's an incredibly well-balanced, potent, citrusy DIPA that is very consistently brewed and absolutely delicious. I could care less about the critics, it's an awesome beer. Will I rant and rave and drive 10 hours to get it, no. I will go out of my way to pick it up every now and then for fun, shit yea! I do miss being able to swing by the brewery and pick it up though, it was way more convenient for someone coming from out of town.
Also, Evan they make several beers right now, Focal Banger, Beelzebub, Crusher and a couple others. Those aren't brewed as often and as easy to acquire though. The Alchemist was completely fucked by Irene, their whole brewery/pub was flooded and had to completely start from scratch.
The last couple years they've been trying to just focus one doing one thing right, Heady Topper. If you try it with an open mind and enjoy hop-forward IPA's I don't see how you could possibly hate it. That being said, everyone has their own preferences and desires when it comes to beer.
I think it's easy to hop on board the hype train because it's an underdog story; the small brewery destroyed by a hurricane that devastated our state, makes fucking awesome beer and receives international acclaim. As a Vermonter it's something to be prideful of.
Same goes for Hill Farmstead. The hype is incredibly deserved. Trust me, I'm not trying to win anyone over. There's enough kooks obsessed with their beer. All I'm saying is that you probably want to try it if given the opportunity.
It's a honey stout aged for about 200 days in a bourbon barrel (a couple are rye barrels). Each bottle has a wax seal and the colour of the wax tells you what kind of barrel it was aged in - so, for example, if you have a white bottle it's from an Elijah Craig 20 y/o barrel, dark red is Four Roses, etc.
They're extremely expensive (costs around $30 a bottle) but for a really special occasion you get one bottle for the night. It seriously takes me an hour and a half to drink one, and I drink the high ABV dark stuff almost exclusively (hence why this is a personal preference).
I'll be going home to VT for the 4th of July. I will try to get some, but it isn't exactly easy to get. On a side note, have any of you guys tried Shed Mountain Ale? I really like this, usually my go to when I'm home and there is no Heady Topper
