shitpoopbass. typical like murkyish water. can you link me to a good crankbait? im fairly new to fishing.
I'd go with bright orange rapala DT-6, one of my go-to cranks. Good in murky or stained water too
Chubz.I mean i live within a mile of a lake and i have a boat. There really is no reason why i shouldn't be out fishing almost everyday. Im gonna have to get the boat out so i can show Frenchy's ass up!
good luck chubz ;)
i just good news, friend has a bass boat on the lake i ice fish at! AKA lunker city!
He doens't own the boat, long story its my neighbors moms ex's boat lol... my neighbor's my age tho and still good friends with the guy who owns the boat and he said we can go out on it whenever. told my friend about bass tournys and he's down haha. Just gotta find some small local tournaments. this lake is bass heaven holy shit, its 3 BIG ponds all connected to each other.
Later tonight i'll go thru my ice fishing videos from there and post pics, just have to screenshot the videos and stuff and haven't gotten around to it yet.
Granite_StateDamn this thread is really making me want to go fishing lol. Haven't been in like 4-5 years. Don't feel like getting a license though so idk...
think about a fishing license as donating to the fish and game department

Thats why I got a lifetime license when I was 15. Already almost paid itself off so in 2 years it will be like im getting free licenses every year

what would even happen if you were caught fishing without a license?
.FRY.what would even happen if you were caught fishing without a license?
A lot of bad stuff. Anything related to fishing gets taken away, you get fined, pretty sure they can take your car/truck, then you have to pay to get it back? And i've heard stories of fisherman breaking creel limits laws/ fishing without a license getting banned from fishing for like a year.
How do you distinguish between a seasoned fisherman and a pro one? I don't fish but it seems like a game of luck so how do you decide who's good at it?

Well a pro has sponsors and fishes in well known bass tournaments like FLW tour or Bassmaster tournaments. Pro's are the ones wearing the jerseys representing their sponsors most of the time.
ginthis thread inspired me to go fishing today..............................................................

Pros are able to dissect huge lakes that they rarely get to fish and figure out where the fish are in a short amount of time. That takes a lot of knowledge, skill and years and years of experience. They know when and where to throw the right baits and are able to make these decisions under a huge amount of pressure. There may be a little luck involved at times, but the pros are incredible fishermen. There is a reason the have all the sponsors they do and are given hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment every year.
I guarantee most of the time a pro will outfish a weekend warrior on his home lake that he fishes every weekend without ever fishing that lake before

I've got more respect for the sport now, thank you
For you people out there that never knew about professional bass fishing... Here is one of my favorite videos of ALL TIME. This fish right here won him the 2003 Bassmaster Classic.
The winner of the classic got $500,000 in 2006, I'm not sure how much it was in 2003. But there are plenty of pro-bassfisherman who have made over 1 million in winnings. unreal.

Obviously theres even more to it than that, but thats pretty much the basics. To even get to the pro level you have to win big tournaments and at the right time. Its truly amazing how good some of these guys are.

I can see why somebody without experience would think fishing is luck, but it's not. Fish have patterns depending on the season. Patterns like what they're feeding on, where they're feeding at, what they're feeding on. A lot has to do with water temp, time of year and the weather. So much to it. Once you get that first feeling of a bass on the your line you'll be hooked. Give it a shot for sure to see what I mean.

I used to think it was luck.....some of it depends on the fish. But if you know your shit, have a good technique, etc, it'll increase your chances.

I mean it's almost 100% luck when you use a bobber and a worm. But using lures it's the presentation that you give the bass, bad presentation- fish probably wont bite.
shitpoopsorry for double post, but i caught a crappie yesterday.
....what is it, is it considered a good fish? etc
it's part of the bass family kinda... Also known as a calico bass, you can see the resemblance of a bass by their big mouths for such a smaller sized fish.

Fun fact that a lot of people dont know, bass are part of the sunfish family
Also, I thought calico bass were a marine species of bass on the west coast?

Honestly I think you're right about the calico bass... But if you look up freshwater calico bass on google it's all crappies? Everyone around here calls crappies Calico's haha
If you like bass fishing, pike fishing is just as awesome. Sure you don't get the "jump" but damn some pike put up a helluva fight. When I get home I'll post a pic of my small mouth and my brothers pike.

Damn it boys you got me back into fishing.
The only time I actually target big pike is ice fishing, I don't get anything huge though. open water for me= 100% bass fishing
guy I ice fish with's pike.. CT doesn't have many pike lakes, but the place I go to that not many people know about every year I ice fish there well into April because of the elevation it's at.
post pics man that'd be sweet! everyone should go out and post pics of their catch no matter how big or small.

You've never had a northern jump? They do all the time for me ha. I dont fish for them much because around my house they're mostly little "snakes" as we call them that bust your line when bass fishing. Know whats even better than pike fishing though? Musky fishing! Those things fight until they die, literally. If you dont get them to the boat quick and get a hold of them they will actually fight until they have no more energy and die as a result.

My brother and I each with one on the same night
Nope never jumped. I love how the act like weeds though. You think you snagged something then all of a sudden BOOM you are in the thick of it.
My cousin and his buddy caught two musks literally 30 seconds apart, both ended up fighting until near exhaustion, tried to let them go but both ended up dying.
And I looked it up, VT fishing license is only $50 so I'm def getting one in the next week or so. I have awesome pike and bass fishing on my lake (lake champlain), shit I've even caught 12+ inch perch in my normal spot. Stoked.

I just looked through my May edition of bassmaster magazine
Champlain is #27 in the top 100 fisheries in the world. that's fkn sweet you live on a lake like that. It says:
"Although many anglers assume this is a smallmouth lake (which it certainly is), the largemouth here grow fat and are more abundant than many believe."

Both Largies and smallies are fun to fish for, but I always love the way smallies fight. It may be because I live on a largemouth lake and only get to fish for smallies when I hit lake George but they're so much fun. Last weekend at lake George my buddies killed it for smallies.. Caught 15-20 each the first evening there. I didn't get a chance to do any serious fishing since we were straight raging the whole time I was there.
since I dont kill bass I'm currently cooking about 15 bluegills that I went out for today. home alone for the weekend and parents told me to survive so imma fry up panfish all day every day lol

Might sound like an idiot here but w/e I don't fish. Why do you say "I don't kill bass" ? Do people not eat them?

last_tangoI have not bass fished in a long ass time. Been mainly around cold water so its been all about trout.
Yep, since I went to school in Montana I've been all about high alpine lake trout fishing. Have a few 3-5 day expeditions planned for later in the summer to hit a couple 3 lake trips all above 9000 feet and full of Cutthroat and Golden trout. Super stoked.
