partyandBSi think vail going offsite with hr was the single worst move they have ever done. hiring is hard for employees. you don’t go through the process too many times in your life so theres a lot of fuck ups. i would be on hold for literally hours to talk to hr for onboarding issues for my employees just to get someone who clearly didn’t like their job. most changes have a few hiccups but hr offsite continues to be a complaint every year. that and no paper maps lol.
Yeah myast yeat for VR at Northstar. Snowmaking boss fucked up my raise. Was supposed to get $17 maybe 17.50 would have caried on to grooming. Tried to sort it out with manager and tracking down the one HR person who existed, being on hold on the phone(which i damn well stayed clocked in for fuck that) and got nowhere. So i got $13.50.
When it was time to jump back in a cat I was looking at other jobs cause rent was $1,000. Had a convo with boss. Got a raise to a whopping $14.25. Was like cool, you have me till April then I'm out. Moved to WA for significantly more money and $375 a month housing you could ski to.
At least they raised wages both Vail and Alterra. I watched mtns push so many good people away with their bullshit and shitty pay. Some people were jist over it or had kids and started pushing dirt for 3 to 4 times what the mtn paid.
Now even with rhe pay increase mtns are short every year. Good on the pay increase(not that they did it caise they cared) but too little too late.
Having HR across to the country is at the very least unethical and moreso actually insane.
When I was having my issues a guy was on the phone for an hour 40 still going when I left.
I get cutting costs but outsourcing HR is straight villain shit and def going to bite them in the ass.
Also Vail burned a lot of bridges with all their shit. It's trendy for people to hop on the "ermahgerd fuck vail" train which is pretty dumb. That said I don't see myself ever working for a Vail Resort ever again.
4 or 5 years was enough
