Nah I don't think you're wrong. Demanding thanks is such a poor move. Same thing for healthcare workers, first responders, etc; no body fucking owes others
anything for choosing that career which also pays money. It's your fucking job. People lack humility far too often. You think the people who are in the elite special forces or intelligence sectors with top secret clearance go around saying "look what I did, thank me". No they don't. They do their job and have to be content with doing crazy ass shit saving the world over and over in ways no one will ever hear about. I find it analogous to bragging which unfortunately most people don't learn that value growing up.
Now I'm not saying we should disrespect people. That's absurd, but we also shouldn't be feel obligated or chastised for not offering our thanks at every turn.
Edit: maybe this is just me and how I was brought up, but idk. Shit I didn't even know my grandpa fought in a war until his funeral. I was like wtf he never even so much as hinted at this when he was alive.
