As for minimum wage, look into the origins of it from 1938 when it was implemented. During the depression when anyone would do anything at any pay setting a price floor on labor put many people out of the possibility of a job. Minimum wage supresses the poor.

I just found out what my parents will be collecting once my dad retires in July. I work well over the yearly average of 2080 hours managing a business, and some retirees will be making more money than me? WTF. What comes out of my pay in a year for SS is what my parents will be getting A MONTH. I'm not mad at my parents, or the people receiving SS, I'm pissed at the system for allowing this to happen.

I don't foresee myself being able to collect social security in 35-40 years when I'm at retirement age. Reliable sources are already stating that the SS funds will be at 0 by 2035. Tax the businesses, not the employees. Businesses have the money. This country is so corrupt.

Someone please educate me if my thinking is wrong.

Alright, rant #2. Minimum wage increase to $15 / hour. I am personally against it, but there are two methods of thinking here:

1) Everyone who is currently employed will want a raise. Why should a novice come in and make $15 / hr when I've been working at Business X for 5 years and am currently making $15.50 / hr (just spewing for an example here). Thus, all other employees will demand raises, prices of goods will sky rocket, and employers will be hiring fewer people to keep costs down. In reality, the wage hike has caused more harm than good.

2) Here is the "in a perfect world" scenario. All current workers will keep the same wages (unless below $15 / hr). Minimum wage sets a new standard of work ethics. If a new hire doesn't meet the needs of the business, you're done and another new hire comes in. Rinse repeat until a "good" employee is found that deserves the $15 / hr (based on current performance measures to make $15 / hr). This will prevent prices of goods from going through the roof, because in theory the business has better workers for their new cost.

Number two only works if all businesses go with that model. I would love to think that #2 will work. In theory it will make employees work hard and care more about their jobs. If you aren't a good worker, you don't make the cut. If you want to make $15 / hr, you gotta work for it, because there will be more people waiting in line with their resume.

I absolutely agree that people deserve a living wage. But if you aren't performing the necessary work, you aren't going to get it. To all you 16 year olds out there, snatch up a job now and work your butt off, because finding a job is going to become very difficult in a few years. Let's say I have two applicants for an entry level $15 / hr position, one is a college kid one is a high schooler with no job history. Guess who is getting the job.

My position has always been that minimum wage is for teenagers, and they do not need a living wage. But unfortunately, the reality is there are a lot of adults out there that do need a living wage that aren't making it. Once $15 / hr comes around, my point will be moot because teenagers won't be able to get jobs anyway.

It's better to be making some money and gaining some experience than to not be getting any of those things. Also, positions that straight up aren't worth $15 an hour won't exist anymore, you can say goodbye to those summer lifegaurd jobs for teenagers. Businesses don't just have some Scroodge McDuck style money vault sitting around where they're greedily holding money. Businesses that can afford to cut or automate positions will make it; but if a businesses can't do those things, they won't survive. Sadly, most of the businesses that wouldn't survive would he small / medium-sized businesses.

The problem is that America is run by/for the large corporations. It’s not that they can’t afford to pay employees more money; it’s that they don’t want to. Hence why outsourcing jobs overseas goes on.

Can see resorts/ski areas going towards a ticket kiosk system with maybe a few people at the window for any other services/inquiries. Like we realistically don't need that many people at a ticket window except on peak days/weeks, maybe some staff to help those who aren't as technologically savvy. I've been to a few ski areas this season with that system and its pretty convenient tbh. Its like checking in for a flight.

A bunch are trying to go to only advance tickets online, no tickets day of. I think that'd be pretty shitty. But yeah, in 10-20 years I think we'll see a lot less of those types of jobs.

I like talking to people but honestly if the system is dialed in and works good enough, saves time and money, i can't hate it. I traveled a lot with just a carry on and would stay away from all desks and people at the airport. A couple times where the thing was derping out but either could get it working, there was another one, or the person there could fix it. But i think all that technology will get more fool proof, society in general will get more used to it.

Just wanna know what the arbitrary lines and parking rules actually are this season haha. People were parking alongside the road of Entry 1-4 yesterday which is rare for when it snows, so we thought the usual go-to parking spot above the helipad on the bypass road would be a good call.

Fuckin' accidentally left my window cracked all day as it snowed, came back to my truck, and Marshal Mike, Law enforcement of the Town of Alta, threw a ticket in a ziplock bag in my drivers seat. Been parking on the bypass road on any given day since I first got my license and was able to drive over to Snowbird, so idk whats going on up there anymore lol. They usually throw up some cones with signs that say no parking on a particular day but they were either buried by the snowplows or just not there because it wasn't there.

And then the dude was just chilling in his tacoma cop cruiser watching me take my boots off and discover his ticket/drove away. At least come talk to me to point out why I fucked up.

Usually fucking push snow from the second I leave the yard till the second I get back. I let my machine warm up so I'm ususlly in the middle of tail end of pack leaving but I'm almost always the last one back at the shop.


He's bitching because he's salty about the ither trail guys but its like yo dawg nit my problem. When i have time i hit you up ,ill do trails ill do push projects on pitches. Ive had nights where i didnt have any free time but still helped fix somebody's cat or fixed a push project gone rogue. Like one night i was doing the jumpline had no free time somebidy was burning out trying to groom this secrion, it was near enough to me so I went and did it for them because they were starting to freak out. Same night another guy was pushing snow to drop the height if a table by a lift load, but pushed it all out onto steep break over below making it like 40 degree wall of soft snow at start of of of the main beginner routes. Got a call to go fix it, dropped my shit powered it out clean, didnt get stuck, git it done well and quick and then powered through my shit to finish on time.


But fuck this dude. Theres been 5-8 bights this whole season. 10 absolutely tops where aive brought my guitar in. At least a couple if them I only had time to play while machine warmed uo and never had a chance to touch it again. There were 2 nights where I played for a half hour hour but that's crazy rare. And I've been working since mid Nov.

Motherfuckers on trails take breaks every night, some nights a shit ton if breaks, naps lunches, whatever. Ive got no problem with it. Fuck it, if trails are going fast take the breaks. Even if I cant it doesnt bother me. But fuck somebody acting like I take a bunch of breaks and then getting cunty with me about it when I twll them whats up(in a calm way).

So if you're pissed I don't have time to help you with your shit, first I got my own shit to do. There's always 12 more things I couod fix in the parks. Ill rotate between work on different featyres and different parks night to night.

But if you want me to help you and do shit that zi absolutely don't need to do, that I always offer to do even when busy if i can, and never complain about it, well being a fucking cunt to me sure as hell isn't the move. Hell last night I brought my fucking guitar in. I played one song while machine warmed up. Mid shift while building a double sided hip I played songs and quick jam to get the creative vibes going. I wasn't even including all the min wage ir near min wage jobs at small mtns all over. And were just talking grooming, but some places pay like total ass.

I get that i dont groom a ton of acreage every night but the amount of blading, back ups etc in parks can be pretty intense, and i try and leave shit super crisp for the childrens. Also im a realist, if theres a small crumb because the snow sucked or something I'm not redoing a feature. I know how good i can get something based on time, and the snow conditions. I'm not burning time.

Idk I'm a mellow guy and still am, but don't tell me I'm lying or not doing my job, especially if that's your way if asking me for more help.

Also we have a lot of rookies so early season I was farming snow and pushing uphill on all the bad breakover so people wouodnt be grooming rocks and dirt. I like trails ive done trails, im down for projects but slow your role, reevaluate your approach.

On god my group I'm in for my EDU unit writing assignment has me SO fucked up. We're writing a language arts unit that has kids read three different books from three different time periods in America so that we can see the evolution of racism post-slavery and what not. I was in charge of writing all the standards and and learning outcomes and shit and we did well on the assignment so I didn't think much of it.

Flash forward to today and we have to flesh out and write individual lesson plans for this unit so I went to our book list to see which books I would be using for this mf lesson. The books are:

1) Huckleberry Finn
2) Beloved
3) Between the World and Me

so our focus right off the bat was racisms evolution POST-SLAVERY and POST-CIVIL WAR. Huck Finn is a fucking pre-civil war era book... it was published post civil war but takes place entirely in pre civil war south- one of the main characters is literally a runaway slave. So Now not only are 2/3 of our books from the same 20 year time period (don't get me wrong, lots happened during that time but not really helpful to the bigger picture of our unit) but one of them isn't even in the period of time we based our whole unit off of.

So I go back to our unit feedback that our professor gave us and she doesn't even bring anything up about it, it was mostly feedback on our formatting and lesson organization. So at this point I don't think anyone in my group or the professor has even read Huck Finn, I'm using the book in my lesson plan and I'm happy with the way it turned out (we just compare pre and post civil war America and the African experience during those times by using our two class texts- easy peasy lemon squeezy). But now I am worried that once I've pointed this out it may permanently fuck up our unit and future assignments down the road that are related to it.

One day earlier this season we were running out and I was making a town run the next morning and I drank all the beers in the fridge some were his but we were sharing like weve been. Was being a tool about it. I uad maybe 8 if his beers and got him a 30 pack so he'd stop whining. Now hes got cases in his car but instead if putting any in the fridge hell just keep taking mine?

Meh. I had 8 30 packs for this last 2 weeks. Last ine down to 6 beers. I can drink but no way I drank even close to all of that there were a couple days where i was drinking wine and a couple whiskey ones. And even without thats significantly more beers than I'm drinking. Just gonna put a cooler in my room with snow.

Idk I'd rather be able to just throw them in the fridge but if it saves me a few 30 packs every couple weeks it's worth it. Im down to share, but if you're going to be a big dick because i drank some beers that were in there and then msde a morning run to stock up, maybe dont draink all my beers that i put in before i went riding.

And if you're gonna call somebody to hangout maybe just don't be a salty dick to them in general.

Will be cool bext year even though ill probably still be living with him because if our jobs, as more things are open there will be more stuff to do.

Idk. I just know that he'll probably complain that im in my room playing my guitar and not hanging out. Like fuck it dude thats what rooms are for.

Like 80% of the hiring for epidemiologists is temp work for COVID, so those jobs are ending soonish. I cant move my life to a new place for a temp job. Howeverrrrrr some of them are paying 40+ bucks an hour so I could theoretically afford to maybe take a few months off and find a new one after that ends. IDK

The jobs that are full time all require 1-2 years experience outside of the masters program. I can argue I have that with my lab and internship time, but still puts me at the bottom of the pack.

Ugh I hear that. A couple years ago I was demolishing an old nuclear missile manufacturing plant way out in the sticks. Lots of asbestos, so it was all white tent, respirators, and bunny suits. We'd go hot before the sun rose and stay hot till after it set. Didn't see the sun for a month.

Then Id come home to our tiny ass place and see those same big ugly motherfuckers. We'd be barking at each other all day at work, and then they'd say some shit about how I need to cook and clean for em cuz machismo bullshit.

We'd be all fired up from knocking walls down all day, and they were always drunk asf and high on hard drugs, so it would get crazy some nights. Demo guys are nuts, you gotta pick your battles.

Got a boyfriend in Colorado Springs and would drive 2 hours each way to stay with him instead. Took a lot of caffeine pills to not crash my car every day.

Still trying to deprogram myself from 8 months of that bullshit. Boonie jobs like that are so stressful cuz you gotta live with each other.
