SubstituteNot really a rant but it's OK.
I am on a XC MTB team for high school aged youth. My one buddy doesn't have a bike and I have been trying to get him one so he can race. My coach and I found him a super awesome bike carbon frame nice drive train, everything. He doesn't have enough money to buy it, and I offered to lend him the difference. But his stupid pride won't do it. It's just really annoying.
Could be pride but regardless it can be a good principal. Most people in highschool don't have a lot of money coming in. If he borrows money from you, it's not like he can deduct that from his next big pay check. If you're working full time it's not that hard to borrow a little until your next check, but if you don't have much cash flowing in, it can leave you in a bad spot.
Sure it's probably a nice bike, but mountain bikes are fucking expensive. It's a good principal to not borrow money when you're in a place where you can't afford it. IF he doesn't borrow it, he doesn't have a bike at the moment, but he also doesn't owe anybody anything.
It just allows you to live within your means and stay in a better spot with less money.
You start borrowing money when you aren't making shit and suddenly everything that's coming in is already spoken for + some.
