Young_IPMCTransitions is real small currently. Like it’s crowded enough that there’s a 50-50 chance someone will send the one jump bigger than 5 feet at the same time as you. Adding about half the people from 3 kings should be interesting.

I get that PC is trying to discourage anyone who isn’t Wallisch from being there so mid-40s parents with money to burn don’t get intimidated by people skiing faster than them, but this is pretty dumb.

Yeah they also have pick axe (Neff land) which is pretty fun but for like 2 hours, park crew guy told me its bigger than transitions and that 3 kings is closed cause they're gonna have vendors along it or something fucking stupid.

I imagine sundance is similar to this but with movie stars instead of rappers, just a bunch of super rich people awkwardly hanging out among each other. PC was cringy to me when i was there after new years, couldn't imagine what its like during sundance.

Was told to backblade all the snow from around a building. Stoked on the surprised of shit buried that I ran over because they were too lazy to move it, dig it out, or tell me not to actually dig out there. Sick cool wow.

267 is closed, sucked to get out of driveway, plow road powder, try to detour around blockage and then not be allowed up regardless. Would have made it fine, instead just got to do a super long detour that ended with trying to get up my steep af street and get around my neighbors horrific parking job. Always nice to add an extra hour just getting back into driveway because neighbor didn't want to shovel or park(rightside) more into bank. Have to put a wheel or 2 off ledge to get around, that was super fun. Also getting in and out across passenger seat several times to shovel more.

Upside is i get to go back to sleep. Wish they would have just let me up the road. Like dude, I just plowed 1.5 feet of snow on side streets to get to this point, I can fucking make it over the pass. Highlands getting up mid mtn at northstar might have been fucked but I could have gotten that far. Have to be in truckee at 830 anyway so would have been cool to already be over the pass, plus getting paid is chill when housing is a billion dollars.

Working on moving out of my dorm and the little social ring-leader girl on the floor is giving me shit for not hanging out with them enough and being "part of the community". I have two groups of friends, one is my stoner group that I'm with more than my other. The other group actually does stuff and is way more fun, but I feel like I don't fit in. I also think they don't like me that much because it seems they never want to ski with me. They're also big drinkers/partiers but I'm quieter and feel like when I'm not skiing with them, I don't fit in. My stoner group, I fit in better with, but all they do is drugs and only ski like once a week maybe. I also get the vibe that they think I'm just plain stupid and don't respect me in any way, besides letting me smoke with them. All I want to do is ski and no one will ski with me (so I can't get to the mountain most of the time, which is probably the main source of my depression) and when I'm not skiing, I just feel like people only sort of like me. I've been trying to figure out what is wrong with me but I can't. I'm probably just actually retarded and don't know

You're right that's what I've been doing, taking the bus on weekends and then occasionally finding random rides during the week, but not nearly as many as I used to. I hate asking for rides because it seems like that's all I do. Once I'm skiing I don't really mind being alone, but now I can never get any footage...

Maybe just ask some random people on the chair to film you. Once time I filmed a stranger through the entire jump line on his phone just because he asked me nice on the chair. I'd do it again if it's not a pow day. Hope the footage was ok lol.

I guess things always come at crucial times. I found myself bored and wishing life was more challenging. Barely scraping by working full time plus any OT I can get in the ski industry was too easy so I was stoked when my car shit the bed. But meh. New engine plus rent in the same week? Easy as fuck. Didn't even feel like a challenge. Figured the sociopaths in the health industry pose a greater challenge.

In America you either want to make a ton of money, or just not work at all. If you're at a lower paying job, even fairly skilled field in an underpaid industry it doesn't matter how many hours you work, life will try to fuck you. Also tried to work a shit ton of hours, like not sleeping probably taking years off my life working and made less than min wage on the extra hours. I think it might have been way less actually. So what I'm realizing is pretty much try and make a shit ton of money in a legitimate job, sell a bunch of drugs, work little enough to qualify for benefits, or die.

I really like what I do in the ski industry. I didn't have access to parks growing up. I spent a third of my day or more building and maintaining my jumps, that would get plowed, rinse repeat. Sometimes ski patrol would force me to tear down a jump I'd spent 3 hours building with my avy shovel. A few times they kicked me off the hill.

Now I get to try and build high quality parks for people to shred. A job I'd do for free if it wasn't for life.

Idk though. Shit's pretty whack.

Just don't pay it. Most health care bills don't get reported to credit unions even if they go to collection. Very common. I've got 1k in collection and will pay it when I get around to it.

Uhhhh I'm just referring to my experience with healthcare in general. I actually work in a healthcare system lol. A good amount of patients can't pay and health systems rely on medicaid/Medicare and private payors to keep them afloat along with government subsidies. Insurance reimbursements are a mystery and make no sense. Hospitals charge 10x what it costs, then insurance companies reimburse a certain percentage, and give a discount to payors, and some crazy formulas go in and out and what not before you get your final bill. It's all dumb and depends on what insurance you have too. Idk why we can't just bill for the cost and get reimbursed for it.

I know for a fact the Cleveland Clinic turns accounts to collections after 6m-1yr but doesn't affect credit reports. Most health care bills don't. Some do.

Whether they are 100% liable, and there's a backup insurance on that which would have completely accepted the claim as well is pretty irrelevant when you have scumbags calling you constantly telling you you're a piece of shit and demanding money.

Took 2 years to straighten out, and honestly was worried about it for a while longer. Dude fucked up a bunch of stuff and then resigned. I got it straightened out once through getting forums from work, the hospital, etc, and sending them ll to them, emails, calls, finally, then like 6 months later it all started again.

It was AIM insurance or something like that in Mass. Fuck them all.

When it had finally been a few years since anything had happened I was stoked to be able to move on. Some of the only people I've ever dealt with in the health industry that didn't seem like shady assholes were doctors on call in Avon Colorado. Super cool people that actually gave a fuck. Was extremely impressed.

I'm really good about keeping up with shoveling but it's one of those things, if your roomates/neighbors(whoever you share space with) don't keep up with it it's like fuck it sometimes.

Cleared out deck and stairs a bunch and kept them clear. Shit wasn't getting shoveled by other people really well so just kinda said fuck it.

Was clearing the 6 inch think ice off the deck and stairs. Roomate fucking yelled at me about putting little shovel scuffs in the deck. First if you're in a place that gets 19 feet of snow in 2 weeks, shoveling is sorta a thing that happens. Seccond, probably shouldn't use fairly soft wood if you're afraid of that.

Whatever though, I'm just gonna stop shoveling and if I fall down the fucking stairs because it's a consistent grade of ice with no flat spots, I'll get a lawyer and sue like any normal asshole would do.

I noticed the square point biting in a little bit and tried to go easy but that's a lot of ice, and it was not even chipping like rock solid. Like even a .000000001mm thick piece could have survived a massive explosion.

We don't pay for snow removal because "we do that ourselves" but it kind blows when that's not the case. 2 possibly 3 out of the 4 of us work from home(not me). So when it snows people will just stay in and not shovel the driveway deck etc because they don't have to go anywhere. And if they go out casually they'll just stomp across and help start that layer of death ice rather than shovel 4-6"of blower.

The downside of places like tahoe where even some of the locals are kind of dicey with snow, and the bay area people that moved up here are clueless. It's not gonna melt when it's snowing 8 feet every few days and the ones it's not, it's 5-15 degrees.

Idk I get it, you don't want to get stuck with damages, but even if you're concerned, tread careful when pitching that. Sorry I just wanted to be able to walk to my house without dying.

Also not even a nice looking deck, could use a sand and some new stain anyway. It's not in bad shape, but it's def not winning any awards either.

This is how it’s getting for me with dishes. I abandoned the dishwasher because I was the only one who could be bothered to unload it or start it to keep things moving and clean. my dads been in it for over 25 years, suggests i stay away from it cause its kinda dying, and here i am working in a ski shop at 22 like he was, plus my mom currently works in a ski store too and often expresses her hate toward it, but still there 10 years later. makes sense to avoid it cause snow isnt gonna exist for too much longer, the younger ones who want to stay in the business will probably have to find new work in like 20-30 years i imagine.

Work is definitely feeling like work. So much tedium and trying to coordinate with people that are all relatively new to this project and trying to upgrade things at the same time. Wish it was more like cruise control since there is snow and other stuff I'd like to focus my energy on. Grrrrr

Yes, no dogs are allowed in the Cottonwood Canyons and its a over $600 fine if caught. I checked with Park City Rv and Deer Valley also (I have never felt like I needed to ask before) and was treated like a monster for asking about having my dog in my camper. The dog is laying on a comfy queen bed with the furnace running she is fine. I often take a break and check on her and she doesn't leave her spot. There are ways around it but I am going on vacation not trying to navigate Utah's bureaucracy.

I feel you though. Honestly there was a long period where going into every season I wondered if it would be my last. So much bullshit.

I think now I'm finally at a point where I can't quit. Goals have gotten crazy and fuck anything that will keep me from them. Want to get killer at my job so I can go to some sweet ass mom and pop resort with a garbage park and make shit proper. The best years I had in the ski industry were at the smaller places.

It's funny too. Resorts treat SKILLED employees like shit, in addition to treating everyone like shit, then wonder why they can't find good employees. There's a reason most people don't stay in the ski industry more than 2 or 3 years at best. I've had so many friends bail to go on to better paying jobs and I don't blame them. Honestly if I thought I wouldn't freak out sitting in a shop welding all day or doing some other job I'd probably have quit years ago.

Underpaid undervalued. It's good for places to work with people, keep them stoked, teach them new skills, keep them coming back. The ski industry will use you and burn you to the ground, then toss you out with the garbage and post another job add for your position.

I think I'm in it for life at this point but shit can be pretty whack. I think this summer will be season 20 for me. 3 teaching, 16 parks, and this summer I'll just be slope grooming mostly. Def haven't been super stoked on the industry for a long ass time, but still crazy passionate about parks and building good shit for the kids. I think next year I might bounce to a better mtn that pays better. Had an offer to do it last year, pay increase was significant and honestly fuck loyalty because the industry in general doesn't seem to have any loyalty to their employees.

Knees are kinda fucked still. Hit our big 3 jump line the other day since it was the only nice park day we've had. No speed for jump 3 but was open. Kinda blows to find out that park crew guys were skipping it because not enough speed, but kept it open. Landed perfect on 2 and tucked in. Front of board was a full foot short still. Buddy behind me came up even shorter. Shit kinda sucks.

Had other days where we were riding and shit was sketch like that. Like a 4 inch drop to the front of a rail take off that somebody just rode by without sporking because it was "good". Make's me more sketched to ride when you can't be sure that features are going to ride well when you hit them.

Mornings are just a "race past everything setting up flags and fences as fast as possible so you can take a break". Maybe 1/4 of the crew can spork a feature decently.

Honestly the reason I'll never work hand crew again. Not as bad as Buttermilk was but damn. (That places was another of shit raking)

Idk, we've had a lot of snow, but lazy hand crew kinda grinds my gears. They'll bitch if you leave a crumb with the cat, but can't do the simple sporking. At one point park crews were way smaller and cat maintenance was pretty minimal. Jumps were hand shoveled and raked, rail takeoffs you were lucky to get a blade full of snow in a pile. You dug through the ice to set rails. Now people can't be bothered to even rake snow far enough out from the side for the cat to get it. Or sometimes even on opening will rake the takeoff and leave the pile of snow at the bottom to form a nice bump for the riders(or cat on end of day rake)

If you hate manual labor/are a lazy piece of shit, don't do a job that requires manual labor. It's not difficult. Someday's are shittier than others but it's a good job. Mtns should probably find good people and pay them well enough to stay in the industry(which will never happen)

If this downward trend continues, terrain parks are going to fucked. People with none to little experience and 0 work ethic. That I know several people who were killer at their jobs that left the ski industry for better work. I get that mtns can't pay a ton of money sometimes, but when you can make more working at taco bell, people are going to find better paying gigs.

Me and my buddy were talking today about how some of these places should require people to do snowmaking. Not because it's related, but because it weeds out the shitty workers. Snowmaking isn't terribly hard, but if you can't lift a spork or shovel on the park crew, you would never make it through a month of snowmaking.

Idk what the training situation is, and if thats a factor but jesus. It's not rocket science. If a rail take off is shaped like a barrel roll jump for cars, probably fix it before pulling lines. IF the sides of the rail are a massive ditch, maybe fill it and leave it instead of pulling lines and yanking more snow out. If the take off or landings have a ledge, spork it out. If a jump has a weird edge near the top, spork it out.

Other than snow days I feel like the park would look almost the same if park crew wasn't allowed to spork or shovel for a day.

Mtns need to hire people who have a less shit work ethic, and treat good employees better so that they stay/get rid of the useless ones that bring the rest of the crew down.
