I tried making some root beer once. we steeped all the sassafras, roots and we couldnt find wintergreen leaves so we bought wintergreen essential oil, which isnt supposed to be consumed, and steeped all that stuff in super sugary water. i think we used brown sugar. honey works better form what I hear. we then bottled it with some yeast to give it a bit of carbonation. but the yeast didnt stop once we put them in the fridge so they blew the fuck up. and when a bottle breaks it breaks into a million pieces. so that was a bitch to clean. it actually blew up so hard that it blew the fridge door open. on the taste front though I think you would be able to make some pretty good stuff if you had a good recipe and didnt use essential oil. ours was alright but it would definitely have been better. if you can though skip the yeast and keg that shit. no risk of explosion.
