Advice for driving long distances

In July my friend and I are going to Virginia( liberty u for Snowflex)and it's about a 10-11 hour drive from here. Normally I'd say it wouldn't a big deal but the thing is I'm probably going to be driving the whole time because my Jeep has a standard tranny and my friend hasn't had experience driving one.

So anyways, I feel like a lot of people on NS drive far distances for ski trips and such so what helps the drive? What are some things to do/ not do? Should I try and teach my friend how to drive a standard or just drive the whole time? Anything else you guys have to offer would be awesome too.

plyswthsqrrlsbeen tracking my mileage in my mazda for 4 years... having the AC on will kill your fuel efficiency regardless of speed. plus its a fucking jeep in the summer, why use AC when you could just pop the roof and doors off?


AC going at high speeds and windows down at low speeds = more fuel efficient. The wind resistance with the windows down going 60+ actually used more gas(in general)

And were two girls going to camp. Were going to be over packed with skis a board, two longboards, a skateboard, bmx bike and more bags than we need hahaha. Don't exactly want the top off for that. I can pop the front part of the top off as like a sunroof but I wouldn't take anymore off given the circumstances hahaha

that's what I always thought too! but turns out (with my cars at least) its not right. but who the fuck knows lol, jeeps are gonna carry tons of drag anyways

but yeah if it's a four-door, leave the top on for sure (soft top, I guess? or do those only come with a hard top? i drive a 99 TJ so I'm out of the loop with all the new wranglers)

reagardless, will be a sweet trip. jeeps are great for long drives

Haha yeah I'm not too concerned about the drag. My jeep is literally a box and my light at doesn't help that at all haha but yeah I have a soft top. I bought my jeep used so it could be aftermarket idk what the oem tops are. It's probably standard soft top and then hard tops are part of a package. Not sure tho

when i drive buffalo/rochester to the boston area it's around a 7-9 hour drive depending on traffic. good music, food, water coffee etc helps a lot. if you smoke cigs or anything that really helps me stay awake.

as for food, stock up as you go as it will also help keep you awake.

avoid the night, real easy to get tired then. and if you can, stop for dinner during the rush hour traffic

Driven to liberty in Virginia from New York multiple times, and out to Breckenridge Colorado 4 times that was a 28 hour drive I did it usally in 22. Pandora fast food and put some stand up and podcasts you've never listen to before. Also it's highway driving your friend should be able to do it.

Dude water you talking about. Driving stoned is the best. You can turn a three hour drive into what feels like 20 minutes with a single dab its amazing. And to those who say it makes you sleepy and dangerous, weed is psychco depressant

I have drove super mega stoned once and didn't like it at all. It was incredibly hard to focus and I almost slammed into a elk that was standing in the road that I didn't see until I passed it.

If you can handle your shit which I can not at all it maybe a different story.

what my friends and i would do whenever we were taking long road trips throughout europe, we would find a cool city, or something to stop in and check out for about an hour or 30 minutes. gets the blood moving and a good stretch of the legs. Lets your eyes reset for a minute and take your mind of driving. So just look up some cool things to stop at and take pictures of like those corny roadside attractions like the worlds largest chair or shit like that. Have fu and good luck.

Monitor how much you drink. Obviously you don't wanna get dehydrated, but you don't want to stop every hour to take a leak either. Find the balance

Crazy, but true. I pulled off a 16 hr drive from Ontario to Saskatchawan completly blitzed. It made me more focused on the drive, I enjoyed talking to myself, that combined with coffee and red bull keeps me awake and interest, listing to music and just appreciating life on the road.

I love long distance drives! You get time for yourself, listen to much and explore a region you dont get to go too often.

This is my roadkit:
-Weed, rolling paper and lighter
-home made coffee, 4 red bulls and some juice
-snacks like skittles, gummy stuff, chips
-Roadside assist gear: spare battery, jumper cables, blankets, water, fire, 1st aid.
-Sport that I am likely to do, I bring my bike, skateboard and stuff at the pit stops.

I drove non stop from Phoenix AZ to Spokane Wa, which is a 22 hour drive. Basically had all the stuff you did, i even brought my board to skate at rest stops and around some towns.

And to those saying weed will just make you pass out: If you have a low tolerance to strong weed and it normally makes you pass out, you will probably pass out. If you can smoke a lot of weed, get high, and NOT pass out, its a must on long trips. Weed makes long monotonous things much more bearable, it makes music easier to get into, it makes panoramic views seem more remarkable. And you can always take a nap on a side road if you want to.

After that, I don't think I'll ever travel cross country without a few grams. Note that I only smoke at secluded spots away from my car without my ID so if i got caught I wouldn't get charged for interstate. Don't get charged with interstate.

If you like pandora comedy, you'd love podcast. I used to listen to comedy on pandora for hours and then found podcast.
