However, I do have to say this much, I don't always just want to watch movies. Some weekends I want to go see a set of random Orchestras or Operas or Sporting Events, etc - IE: Phish isn't the only band I'd want to see, or the only genre I want to listen to.

Therefore, it's kinda confusing to see people follow Phish around the country on such a massive groupie scale. I get it if it's your thing, but it's SO much more the thing to do with Phish than any other band I can think of. (Maybe Jimmy Buffett, hence the Parrothead moniker, but I'll admit, Phish is many times better than Jimmy Buffett, so those folks are even more fucking weird)



I mean, on the flip side, you have groups like Iron Maiden - a band with a huge following, tons of great songs from over the years, and they're under-the-radar enough that you never hear them on the radio or anything - Much like Phish. different Genre entirely, but similar band in following and scene - yet it's incredibly far less rare for me to hear folks follow Maiden around while they are on tour.

Perhaps its because more of my friends are hippies from Vermont than metalheads from Britain, maybe Iron Maiden is the Metal-version of Phish and I am totally clueless, but this is my own best explaination as to where I and many others' questions about Phish Phollowing comes from.





[And on that note, thinking about all of this Iron Maiden makes me kinda want to follow around Iron Maiden while they're on tour, because that sounds fucking AWESOME - thus I'm realizing I might just be WAY more into Metal than jam rock and bluegrass haha]

It's more than just the show they put on. It's the great time they had. Also, the positive vibes and sense of community draws you back. Not everybody fits in all groups. For some people they go to a phish concert and they find a group of people they fit in with and feel comfortable with. I could never imagine myself enjoying iron maiden because people have different taste. Some people find sense of community at raves and so many people on this site wouldn't do that. Get in where ya fit in

I love phish and would gladly follow them around all summer every year. I love a lot of bands and I'd do the same for them. I think most people that see phish or other bands see lots of music. I don't think many people are like no, I only see phish.

I'd rather do full phish summer and I've seen 2 other bands more than phish. Hell I'd love to do a shit ton of biscuits shows and Ive barely seen them comparably.


Idk, I just think music people dig music

ive seen bassnectar 6 times this year, and while he isnt a jam band or anything there is a sort of "vibe" that goes with these shows...

its when you are fucked up and grooving hard, and you look around at all the people and everyone esle is fucked up too has a huge smile. its like that feeling of being lost in the crowd. chances are you came to the show in a group. when that vibe hits it seems like the entire crowd is the same group.... like one jammin, bangin, slammin, organism

I don't know about anymore, but back 5-6 years ago, dude was ahead of everyone in that scene and attracted a pretty killer crowd while actually playing very unique things live.

That said, he's also dubstep and that shit jumped the shark 4 years ago, so whatever on that.

yeah I agree. I'm not really into it but dudes been doing it for a while. Before the whole pseudo rave scene blew up he was doing his thing. I def respect him a lot more than the trendy trendsters diving into the scene these days. Imo it's all pretty beat out these days though.

That scene is like a place pond pond where all kinds of toxic waste is dumped. Even if you dump in a little clean water it get's polluted to death instantly.

EDM needs to die and then maybe it can come back reasonable.

Using "EDM" for terminology is just what druggy frat bros from San Dimas, California and West Chester, PA call it. I never heard that before the Carnival started getting big in LA and idiots turned what was becoming a very cool european style scene into a festival of dipshittery.

Everyone with a macbook pro these days thinks they're the next fucking tiesto, and though that's cool from an perspective of giving many people who may be creative, access to creating music, they get drowned out by the million idiots who suck.

I am not going to lie, I went to mysteryland as my first experience with electronic music, and it was fucking awesome. One huge party. It helped that it was local and so many of my friends were there and camping with me.. However, I would do it again! I would have never imagined myself 4 months ago defending electronic music, but it was so fucking fun to rage. Just the feeling of being able to rage/dance without giving a fuck and without anybody judging was awesome. I don't give a shit about the specific artist really, or if they copy each other. It was truly a life changing experience. People have different taste in music and I can't get into phish (more of a moe. guy). I gave it a shot though before judging.

I would choose a festival like moe.down any day, but I would not hate on a electronic music festival. Seriously you have to try one and go in with a positive attitude. Tell me its not fun afterwards and I would question your ability to let go.

i can not agree more... dont get me wrong, i mostly listen to trance and drum and bass. but holy fuck the people at shows get wrst and worst every year! i mean 80 underage hospitalizations in aviciis tour. people like steve aoki that literally press ply and jump in front of the mixing table.

there are still some great ones out there making dope music, the vibes at a like a string cheese show (id say phish but im going for the first time later this month hopefully) are far friendlier and uniting

fuckin a. so bummed fishman ripcorded tube after 4 minutes. seriously what the fuck is up with a 4 minute tube. into fucking JOY of all songs too. at least they brought it back with first tube but jesus if you're gonna open the encore with tube you should play it like its late 1997 and stretch it out.

This makes me happy! I think you'd get it if you went to a show. The sound Phish brings is incredible. GIves me goosebumps every show. They'll probably do a nice big west coast run this fall and I highly recommend catching a show. Also... Halloween in Vegas anyone?

I have Randall's FOMO so bad!! Been steaming each night wishing I was there. I went to mansfield and spac, which will sadly be all of the Phish I get to see this summer.

Nah, SPAC was my last hurrah for the summer. Raged that shit then got on a plane the next day. I bet philly>nyc was a lot of fun. Cmac will be good obviously. Would have liked to rage chi again.

A little late, but July 5 at SPAC was my first phish show and it was amazing. Well exceeded the hype. I remember calling out someone on Shakedown with a Saga baseball tee w red sleeves, and then seeing them again in the venue (way early, had to get that railing spot). Yeah. Some of the hard shows it's tough to get with the lottery. PLan your shit out. You might have to use multiple cards to hit the big ones but be careful as you don't want to get a ton of tickets to a shit selling show.

Also on outdoor shows you can easily end up hitting everything with lawns so just figure out your plan and make it happen.

Last night really was a show for the ages. Completely different from the deep type II jams of Randalls III, but awesome in its own light. The segue is back! With just 5 shows left this summer, I'm really interested to see what direction they go in after this.
