Obviously he did it intentionally. He figured he'd get way more views for the fail video so he decide to try to base jump but actually try to fail but survive. Not too many people fail to pull the chute and come out alive so now he's got that on his side.

Clearly well calculated move to get famous.

Yeah but they could've taken 10 minutes to actually calculate the trajectory and then made an even cooler video where it worked

this is exactly what heppens to me in GTA5 when i try and base off of mt chiliad. glad he was ok though, i usually ended up wasted with a 5g medical bill.

You have to ride up the ramp to the top of the gondola pole and then jump off in mid air
