Contour or GoPro?

Basically I'm graduating hs in a week and my parents asked me what I wanted for my grad gift. Which is the better camera in your opinion? I'd be using it for skiing, tramp, and off-roading mostly and probably some other things.

Honestly, the contour has nothing on the gopro. A friend of mine shot an edit with the contour and it looks absolutely awful. The Hero 3 now can also shoot in 2.7k at 30fps, which is also kind of nice. The one downside to the gopro is the battery life, which shouldnt be an issue for you unless you plan on leaving the camera running for more than 2-3 hours.

I have a gopro hero 3+ and it is soo sick, image quality is not too far from my 60d dslr for a margin of the price, its waterproof and the iphone app is pretty sweet. Plus the mounts are everywhere

Didn't Contour go out of business?

I own one but i wish i had gone for the GoPro, I find even after adjustments the video quality just isn't the same on the Contour.

Honestly I didn't know anything about the contour until my friend told me they were like 10 times better than gopros. I would have looked it up but I don't understand the technically camera terms haha. Anyways I think I'm gonna go with a gopro. Just for shits and giggles how do sony action cams compare?

Gopro. Pretty versatile and probably better video quality. Also pro tune and accessories such as the LED backpack make filming easier/ better

you're incorrect lol. Your friend probably sucks at working with his footage lol... Contour uses the same chips as go pro

Gopro 4 is rumored to come out this month, so I'd maybe wait a bit and get that.

yea i would wait if you can the hero4 is coming out before august, and according to the rumors its going to be a lot better than the hero3+

I think the contour has a better mounting system than the gopro. I haven't really looked into gopros but between all the 360 degree mounts and various bar mounts, its pretty awesome. You definitely don't look like as much of an idiot rocking a contour. Plus you can download the app if you have android or IOS to use your phone as a viewfinder via Bluetooth.

I heard action cams were really nice and got really good video quality for what it is. But with that being said i've never owned one and have a hero2 and I really like it. I just don't get to use it a ton.

After playing around with one, the go pro is still my choice of camera, but the zeiss lens on the Sony cam is great and makes the optics slightly better than the go pro IMO. That being said, when it comes to a cam like that, I like a smaller camera and the go pro takes the cake for that. it's also...flat which is awesome for mounting it on your chest and other flat applications

Gopros can film in 4k as well, which the action cam can't...

although Panasonic's coming out with a wearable cam that can film 4k at 30p, the shape's a cool idea as well.

Sony action cam quality is nice but it is a bitch to wear/mount anywhere but the goggles, where it tends to bounce around to much unless I want to strangle my face (and also makes me feel off balance). When I bought it it there was no angle mount that came with it so I kind of have to set the angle perfectly.

tbh I would get a gopro if I had a second chance.
