tomPietrowskiI have used quite a few base layers from synthetic, to decent wool up too really good merino wool, and you get what you pay for. The icebreakers are the best I hav used. They cost more but last forever and are so nice to wear. I wear the 260 weight top and I find that's good year round for me but some people find it too heavy and prefer the 200.
For bottoms I just use cheap helly Hanson synthetics. I never really get that cold in the leg but it's nice to still have the wicking.
I also when it's called use a mid price Hurley thermal a bit like an armada or saga kind of quality. It's nice to add Over th ice breaker for the cold days and it did not cost too much.
