CyanicenineSkiing in general needs more women. It's a good old boys club where guys ditch their girlfriends and wives to drink and play with their buddies. It's not very inclusive towards women, and sometimes downright hostile.
Next time you're in line on pow day waiting for the lifts to start spinning take a look around you. How many women do you see? I usually can count them on one hand. It's crazy to me that guys are shocked that women aren't skiing at the same level. There are no women skiing. You might as well be asking why Jamaicans aren't better at skiing.
I can ride through the park and never see another woman all day long. If I do it's typically a snowboarder, I think because snowboarding appeals to the sort of counterculture, I don't give a fuck attitude, that you need to have in order to enter the park as a woman, because let's face it, it's not like park skiing or extreme sports in general are something we encourage little girls to do.
Clearly we need a Line traveling circus barbie or something to encourage and attract more girls to the sport, haha.

Mama.TRAVELING BARBIE CIRCUS. I'm stealing this name and starting a webisode series.
But really, it's hard to want to be involved on here lately, because there's a serious lack of maturity (not that its new or anything, I just notice more than I used to) about women, women's skiing, as well as topics that are worth discussing. I'm more active in Ladies Men because... duh.
Line_freeski420I think this all is ridiculous, guys will be guys an want tit pics no matter the site, ns is no different. Your on the internet for gods sake
louie.miragsOk mr. alias
Mr.BishopThis and the blatant hate towards women's ability to even think about skiing.
If we just trim those two things up a bit, we could have a lot better success with being inviting for women.
MousseauNope!

TheSeaCaptainSession 1242 with Kristi Leskinen's bit.
louie.miragsUnless you know them personally that screams alias. 1 day member, no karma, two post? What do you mean nope? What they said is true, the internet is horrible for sexual harassment. But, to assume it is a chick I cannot do. Huck Norris must be a chick too ;)
.Rybak.What I am trying to say is that the majority of guys are into sports and outdoorsy stuff where girls are more into the shopping and snowboarding because its trendy. Or at least thats how it is in the midwest. I imagine it is a lot different near real mountains for the most part.
louie.miragsYou have a good point. But, girls love outdoorsy stuff because it makes for great instagram photos.
All jokes aside, I think Men dig skiing more for the competition. We'll do whatever it takes to showoff and compete who has the bigger dick (figuratively speaking).

.Rybak.Well in all honesty I just think that newschoolers just isnt as appealing to women as it is to guys. Or I guess I should say skiing/freeskiing as a whole.
Where im from in highschool I still have to explain tto people the kind of skiing I do because they think that only snowboarders are able to go into the park.
And 95% of girls I know or have seen arent interested in skiing for skiing or snowboarding for snowboarding. Theyre do it just because its the "thing" to do because they saw shawn(sp?) White do it on the tv.
Otherwise they would rather take daddys money and go to the mall.

Bakerpowi mean i like to ski because i love getting pounded in the face by white stuff. but thats just me. seems like more girls should like this sport. nothing to do with checking my dick size.
RubberSoulseriously, girls are treated like idiots 80% of the time regardless of what they say or do on here. you'll see the most normal, reasonable post downvoted to hell just cause the name is pink
if i was a girl i'd make my name blue so all these sexist retard teenagers wouldn't pre judge my posts
louie.miragsDoes anybody else notice that the lesser known females, or the ones who haven't been here as long, there post are always downvoted? Even if their point is legit. Is that the 15 year old dudes who hate chicks because they get no attention or the other chicks?

FilmingBitchEven after being a member of Newschoolers for 11 years, I still can't give you a definitive answer as to why there aren't that many women on here. I can, however, tell you a few things about my own experience.
Yes, it can be intimidating at first to post something when you know you're going to get backlash no matter what, sometimes for being a girl, sometimes for being a n00b, sometimes for no reason whatsoever. That happens to almost everyone on here though, especially new members, and maybe girls just don't want to deal with that. The fact is, there aren't as many female skiers out there - or perhaps, not as many hardcore female skiers who really want to become part of the greater freestyle community. I think that Bishop et al. have a solid plan in mind to make the atmosphere more welcoming to ladies, regardless of their skill - it's passion that matters more than anything. I think that goes for everyone on here though; to stress the passion for skiing, rather than the skills.
I am not a very good park skier - I never really was, but I tried most things once. Lanky straight airs and 180 Japan's ftw - I even got my Slopestyle instructor certification, but I still didn't think I was very good. I am, however, a rather good technical skier both on and off piste (I am going for my CSIA Level 3 soon), but when I was around here more, people seemed to be all about park. That pushed me away a bit, because I felt like a poser - even though I love skiing and can rip it up, I lacked in the park. Why do you think I became a FilmingBitch? I wanted to remain part of the freestyle culture, without having to rip it up in the park (moguls were more my bag) so I made it into a good thing. If it wasn't for Newschoolers (especially Maui!) I don't think I would have gotten into photography.
I used to be very active on this site in the early years - it was a great place to meet new people, both to ski with and to talk to. It was a riot. Eventually my life got too busy to come on here as often, and now I pop into the cult forums every few months, but that's about it. I wish I could contribute more to the community that, regardless of it's sometimes rough appearance, gave me so much joy.
If you want more girls to come on here, then spread the word to the girls you ski with - or your friends who want to try something new - to get them stoked on the culture. Don't tell them that they suck when they try something and fail, give them pointers, tell them about useful videos and forums on here. Tell them how stoked you are that they are trying something new, something badass. They may never get very good, or maybe they will, but what's important is that they tried and were stoked about it.
Mama.I was on the Ski Diva for years before joining NS. Still talk to women I met on there.
RachyStop whoring yourself to ski websites.
NS only.

Mr.BishopWhat is the community like?
Would there be any value to adding a women's only forum on here? Like need pinkname to post type deal? Public, but no pinkname no posty.
ThaLoraxI don't think that would work because so many women on this site have blue names. Plus, Ashley is green and a few girls are purple.
Mr.BishopWell, they could all assume pinknames if it was a good enough idea. We could also address the problem with having a pinkname in some fashion.

immasI would definitely use a women's only section. It really sucks to have your knowledge dismissed becuse you're a girl.
Mama.I think if you did this, you should have some sort of verification process to keep aliases out. Members would have to be approved through some method that would weed out aliases. You could have a few female mods with the ability to moderate the women's forum only. I know I'd be interested in that, and there's plenty of other girls who have been on here long enough to have that position too. Yellow names? hahaha.

Mr.BishopYeah you could handle this through harsh moderation of pink names. I'm sure you wouldn't get 100% accuracy, but you could get pretty close. You're absolutely right we'd empower a couple of the female leaders of the site to be able to check this stuff.
We could have something like if specific members get flagged as seeming too dude-ish, they need to photocopy a drivers licence / passport and send it to the office for verification.
Duly noted. This might end up being an easy experiment.
Mama.Something like this would have me WAY more active on the site.
SideShowBobI mean I'm a pink name and I would enjoy being a mod
.FRY.you would actually make a good mod. not gonna lie.
MinggThat being said, I'm not one to run away when things are hard.
.Hugo.Ahhh if only this was in a different thread, I wouldnt feel like an asshole and could make a joke
