I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

Curious about the best places for fall/winter riding in BC. How is Penticton/Kelowna/Kamloops? I've been to the Kamloops bike ranch but I suck at hitting jumps so I'm mostly interested in single track.

Surely North Shore is the only answer here? Obviously that's west coast rather than interior like Kelowna or Kamloops, but not sure what else is about in the winter, you need to go coastal really.

North shore gonna be wet as fuck in the fall/winter. Take a look at trailforks, but I think Kamloops has a bigger single track network. Plenty of shuttle laps available at Harper mountain, and lots of pedally stuff around town, and just down the highway in Merritt.

Nope, it depends on the weather/spot, but you should be able to find riding in the winter. Kamloops has a similar climate but will get a bit more snow, so its more of a fall spot than a winter spot. I'd say if you're riding in the winter, go to the Okanagan, if its a fall trip, go to the Loops.

Nope, it's part of whats called the Thompson region. The Okanagan is a valley that runs north-south, from the US border up to about Salmon Arm. The Thompson valley runs east-west, sort of from salmon arm out to the west.

If there's not much snow, go to Kamloops. If there's snow, go to Kelowna.

N+1'd yesterday. Very excited to get something that's rewarding on mellower stuff and climbs well. "Downcountry" is so fucking cringe but it does describe what I hope this bike will do. Will be very new to me, coming from riding exclusively bikepark beater sleds.

Tire recommendations welcome. Maybe dissector front forekaster rear? I only ride assegais currently lol I'm way out of my element.

Hell yeah brother!!! The most slept on setup. I'll take the weight penalty if I'm not blowing up multiple drivetrains every season.

Love mixing the 50T cassette with a 26T chainring and climbing fucked up stuff. Downshifting under load feels so insane. My SRAM GX stuff doesn't even come close, linkglide is really in a league of its own when it comes to handling aggressive shifting.

Don't sleep on the Minion SS for a rear tire! They roll so goddamn fast, and those side knobs are so beefy you can slide around all day but trust that it's gonna hook up eventually. I'm generally not too crazy about Maxxis but I loved that tire.
For the front I tend to go traction over rolling resistance, even on a pedally bike. Maybe a Conti Xynotal enduro/soft? I run the Kryptotal enduro/soft on my trail bike, the Xynotal might split the difference between burly trail tire and sketchy XC tire

Good look, thank you! I rode the hell out of some Kryptotal DH's last year and I was extremely impressed. Conti is giving Maxxis a serious run for their money right now. I usually get whichever one is a better deal when I need new DH tires.

MinionSS rear tire sounds proper sketchy fun, just might have to get one for testing! On techy climbs, do you lose any significant uphill grip going with something that low profile? Never tried a tire like that before. Thanks!

Yeah it's not the best for techy climbing, like it can absolutely handle some chunk but it's meant for more buffed out trails. Where do you ride? The trails out here in the foothills are mostly smooth and sandy, the tech comes in short bursts that the SS can manage just fine, but if you're in New England riding 80% wet roots and rocks you might not love it.

The Specialized Eliminator is another fast-roller but has a bit more to offer in the middle tread, I run the T7's on my trail bike

I miss ripping laps and having cookouts in the snowshoe bikepark parking lot with the homies more than I can explain. Having serious going-down-a-mountain-really-fast withdrawals rn. Skiing is great, and I'm beyond excited to get back on snow soon, but there's something about bikepark season, especially at shoe, that's simply irreplaceable.

Interesting article, I kinda get the vibe that all-mountain bikes are like 110mm waist skis. Jack of all trades, master of none. I get the appeal of having one piece of gear that does everything, (it does help reduce clutter, and makes financial sense), but personally I'm working towards having a couple of bikes that are better at their specific missions.

once i found out he was british i read it in a totally different voice lol.

i have a DH that is my primary bike as i hit lift access 60+ times a summer. i use an “all-mountain” evil offering which is 160/140 for trail riding and to cruise around town. and it slays. its also the first bike ive had with gears so i dont have much to compare it to. i think you can adjust to your bike a lot more than this article eludes to.

That article doesn't take bike geometry into account. A 110-130mm bike will have less travel, but be much more playful than a slacker, longer travel bike. It will also pedal better if distance/ elevation gain is important

did you read the article?? it mentions geometry and its mainly talking about bikes in the 150mm range. the author saying either go full enduro because the frame geometry is essentially the same and the weight is so comparable that all your doing is loosing extra travel. he suggests getting an enduro or getting a 110-130mm trail bike as the geometry of those is much different then the enduros. he’s got valid points but is generalizing as some companies do have clear difference in geometry between frame types such as evil.

Late response, but fuck yes I'm missing that feeling right now. Over the last 7/8 years or so I've definitely gravitated more towards enjoying summer and mountain biking seasons over winter.

I was riding the chair at Lake Louise in like -20c windchill last week and couldn't help but dream of summer.

Tbf the level of riding at Dyfi & Revs is absolutely insane. If you want to ride bikes in Winter it's absolutely worth a trip over to the UK at some point in your life, you'll need your waterproofs though.
