I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

Almost got an $800 trespassing sign tonight since I went do a trail that popped out at some dam construction. Manager to talk my way out of it. No signage indicating that the trail would lead to trespassing just a few signs along the main trail saying the dam was closed and I didn't think anything of it.

Adaptive Sport MTB setups are some of the most sick shit on earth, boys. Three-wheel setups with electric motors similar to those on E-Dirt bikes and they were ripping so hard, like bottoming-out jumps and shit like that, almost flipping over. Those folks get after it. It was rad seeing that and the people doing it yo.

I just have too many bikes right now haha. I have an overstroked Evil Offering v2 for my everything bike, my turbo levo, and a dirt jumper. no need for this one.

Ibis ripmo af or giant reign or something of the sort will have similar part spec and great customer service with brick and mortar support if that's important to you. It's nice when a shop can go to bat for you when/if warranty shit happens. Haven't heard good things about canyon's cs.

The new giant trance x is actually super sick tbh if you want a rowdy 27.5 trail bike that can do it all.

I hate to sound like an ass but after owning a trance and a stance I am going to need to hear some incredibly convincing arguments for buying a markup bike that's dated in design. Unironically the Kona honzos were more fun to ride then the trance IMO

Edit: Worked in a shop but not super knowledgeable but most normal issues I feel comfortable fixing.

Look at the geo for the trance x it is very modern. The regular trance x, not the trance x 29. 145mm travel 63.x-64.x hta. But even the trance x 29 is pretty similar geo to the yt jeffsy. Not too sure what you mean by markup bike that's dated, they're def the soul 7 of the mtb world but they spec great.

Fair enough. Most enjoyment I ever had was on my buddies Intense Spider so I'm sort of chasing that. Midwest duluth area so some funky rocky downhill stuff but still lots of pedaling.

I'm still not sold on having more than 140 travel and less than 165 hta unless you are riding bike park shit consistently but I am willing to be convinced otherwise

No real reason unless you wanna plow or you want your suspension to take hits instead of your rims I guess. Head angle idk really it's nice insurance to be slacked out when you want more tire in front of you going over drops you can't quite roll when you're not quite going as fast as you want.

The big thing with new bikes is the seat tube is so straight up and down it really weights the front tire, good for smooth steep climbs but a little catchy when you expect a light front end climbing chunky stuff.

One thing to consider too with 140+ bikes is everything has a fox36 or more and they're so fuckin heavy compared to older bikes with 34's that worked fine for most things you can pedal that were way lighter. Honestly i have a 2017 trance I can't kill. I put a short stem on it and i still love it.

Maybe check out the ibis ripley af? I'm not sure pricepoint 27.5 bikes besides giant anymore tbh.

In the last 5 years or so bikes haven't changed too much besides maybe a slacker hta by a couple degrees or longer travel droppers and 12speeds. You'll dig whatever you get, it's just bikes after all.

Wasn't even aware of this bike. An interesting option for sure. But damn, everything is incredible slack nowadays. I feel like it's similar to ski widths now where everyone is running 105mm plus on the waist width "just in case it snows more than 5 inches" lol

I have the 160 and love it to death but it’s also my first modern full suspension bike. Def not the best climber but it feels so good on the way down and thats the fun part anyway imo

You managed to pick the two companies with some of the worst customer service programs around.
They both make sick looking bikes, but...

YT took forever to quote my riding buddy $700 for his questionably (we think it was a defective carbon layup) cracked front triangle. (cracked on the side of the down tube, not a usual impact area). Pike St in WV patched it for him and he's been riding it, no issues, for like 2 years.

No first-hand experience with Canyon, but heard horror stories. Someone at the same shop had an XC race frame cracked around the rear dropout area and Canyon wouldn't even crash replace it or discount a frame. Just told him to fuck off and buy a new bike. Pike St fabbed up a rear triangle piece, I haven't heard about the bike since.

On the other hand,

I nuked a Commencal Clash front triangle at the weld (absolutely boss hogging, not surprised it went, still swear by the Clash) and Commy had a new frame to me for free within days.

Giant has an awesome crash replacement program, got my buddy a new frame after cracking his Reign no questions asked.


Sounds like you're after a trail/AM rig, there's a lot of good options, just have to see what fits your budget.

Revolution Bike Park here in the UK closing next year due to tree disease in the forest.

Not sure how well-known it is over in North America but if you haven't heard of it, go take a look on youtube. It's a serious serious place and it's a horrible shame it's closing!

Awful news for the local riders, people losing their jobs of course, and for the local tiny village (doesn't even have phone reception) which is going to lose a lot of its tourism!!

I know it's not as good, but isn't Dyfi close by? Sucks. Sudden Oak Death is a serious disease for trees though, and can wipe out entire forests. It can spread from the mud on your bike/car tires too (and we all know there's plenty of moisture in that region)

Yeah it's only an hour or so away. A lot of riders would argue Dyfi is superior but it depends what you're after really. I've always preferred Revs personally. Dyfi is quite flat in some parts, I find myself pedalling quite often there especially if it's windy because it's so exposed.
