This. If it says "Rockshox" on it you're toast. Throw a PNW, OneUp, or basically anything else on, and party on. It's not good for the planet, but unless you've got some special mojo, Reverbs are unreliable and really hard to fix.

Haven’t been myself but all my friends that have agree with that ^^^

Mulleted my Clash. So far everything I heard about 29 vs 27.5 is relatively accurate. You give up a bit of playfulness to gain capability. Might grab an offset bushing to bring the BB back down a little, feeling less “in” the bike and more “over” it with the new geo. Otherwise super happy with it. Duct taped rim holding air pretty good too.

Thunder (Fort Hill specifically) has my heart over all the other Northeast parks

Hell yeah dude. I shouldn't have rode mid mtn earlier and just went for hot laps, but I stopped at the Arcylon trailhead omw down to SLC for a quickie.

Could be a seized cable in the housing or maybe it just needs some slick honey under the collar. I'd guess the former most likely. Or it needs a rebuild, luckily the oneup is very easy to service on your own. Just contact their warranty department and they'll probably send you a kit for free.

Helenduro was an absolute blast, and I am looking forward to doing it again next year and hopefully more races.
After waiting for what felt like ages to drop into Stage 1, including a course hold for a hiker that was adamant that he needed to hike up the course, the rider immediately ahead of me went down hard and I waited with him until medical could arrive, then since it was only about 15% of the way down the stage I shouldered my bike and hiked back up to the start gate to get my re-run. It was rocky as hell, but I was feeling a bit smoother after the first section, then about 30' after where the rider went down I got my feet knocked off my pedals when my poor line choice resulted in smacking my crank and BB into a tire-width rock pinch, and rode unclipped through a rocky section and somehow regained composure without losing too much momentum, but then in the last third of the stage caught up to the rider ahead of me (even after an extra 1.5 minute wait at the start gate for them) and they wouldn't let me pass. I announced my presence and asked to pass multiple times but it seemed like either they couldn't hear me or were just tunnel-visioned into getting through their stage and didn't even realize that I was behind, but then another rider caught up to me, and then another and there was nothing we could do but ride the last 25% of the stage at their pace since they wouldn't let us overtake and there wasn't a safe spot to pass more aggressively. A little bit of a bummer, but not too big of a deal, the guy two riders behind me was pretty pissed about it though.
Second stage was a semi-familiar trail and I had ridden it a couple years back. Much faster, less chunk, and more supportive corners. Overcooked it a bit into a loose flat corner and smashed my BB directly into a stump on the outside of the corner at a pretty good speed, got tossed around and rattled my bones a bit but managed to regain composure and didn't come off the bike. an inch to the left and I would have folded my chainring. The rest of the stage I just focused on riding smooth and precise and got up some good flow and speed through the second half, felt really good.
On the transfer to the third stage other riders were lamenting how much the upcoming stage sucks. No-one had a single good thing to say, pedal-y, chucky, loose, tight speed-killing switchbacks, one of the least enjoyable trails in the locale. It was pretty fuckin tough, it was loose, rocky, punchy climbs with wheel swallowing holes and off camber blind corners, quite a bit of pedaling, but I just tried to make up speed where I could, even had a few spots where I was able to get some airtime to float over some rocky bits, did a half-decent job of maintaining momentum to get up the punchy climbs and focused on getting round the tight switchbacks in anticipation for the final stage's even tighter and sketchier switchbacks.
The last stage was tough, there were some abrupt uphills that I managed to fuck up pretty good and had to just muscle my way through in too high of a gear, did my best to re-gain speed and had some pretty fun and fast line choices along the ridgeline, then was faced with the tightest, sketchiest, switchbacks I've ridden in a long time. It was fucking sketchy, managed to make it though the first one half-decently, then dropped my front wheel off the edge of the second one and barely stopped myself from going over the edge, nearly went OTB on the third one but saved it, haphazardly skidded around the 4th, and went around the last pretty cautiously to then make a final sprint through the finish.
Loved the challenge of the course, the camaraderie on the transfers, the excitement of waiting in line to drop into the stages, and just getting to spend a beautiful day going as fast as I could on my mountain bicycle. Had such a good time.

Maybe $4500? It's a nice build, with some weird weaknesses, so I think that realm is reasonable.

Nothing on it is "bad" at all, but there are just a few components that aren't really "dream build" level, and stand out. Guide brakes are pretty shitty, even the RS version. Like, they're fine, but I'd upgrade to Codes or something else, long before I upgraded my drivetrain from GX to XO1. Especially on a long travel bike like this. Similarly, that crankset is fine, but is at a lower level than the drivetrain/suspension. Also, why does he list crank boots that aren't in the pictures, and aren't necessary on aluminum cranks?

I don't understand why he doesn't list the suspension, it's Fox factory, obviously, but the lack of any mention of it makes me wonder if it's ever been serviced. Finally, that KORE handlebar is weird and scary. Its probably fine, but I would never run a weird sketchy third party handlebar. Would recommend swapping as soon as you get it.

None of those are like, big red flags, they're just little details that make me question the "dream build" of it all, and thus, paying "dream build" prices for it.

Brutal honesty: Not worth it. Here's why I say that:

1: No warranty. You're the second owner, Evil won't help you if you break something. You'd have to convince the original owner to convince Evil he still owns it and have him do the whole warranty process for you. Total PITA. He might not even be down to lie for you, in which case you're 100% up a creek without a paddle. I always recommend buying new for the warranty. No bike is 100% bomb-proof / accident-proof.

2: Evils break. Two guys in my squad ride/used to ride Evils. They break. Like multiple times a season if you're a really aggressive rider. Front triangles, chainstays, etc. Seen it happen several times at this point, I wouldn't buy one if it was my own money. They look sick and ride sick, but is that truly worth the downsides they come with?

3: That build has a few weak points that others have already pointed out. Won't waste your time there.

4: Geometry is already outdated. Bikes have been evolving insanely fast over the past few years. Sucks, but it's true.

Way better options out there for 5K.
For instance:
- Transition Spire
- Transition Patrol
- Commencal Meta AM or SX
- Commencal Clash (my current bike)
- Fezzari Lasal Peak (probably my next bike)

Brands I personally shop from / stand behind:
- Commencal
- Transition
- Giant (best carbon frame warranty in the industry, no long travel bikes through, would have to adjust the shock on a Reign to increase travel to fit the bill. Easily done, my buddy loves his modded Reign.)
- And pretty much any brand with lifetime frame warranty and solid crash replacement program.

Brands I personally avoid:
Canyon - bad support
YT - bad support
Evil - break a lot
Specialized - (personal opinion, hate working on them)

At the end of the day, I always recommend buying new. Take the hit on component spec for now. Everything drivetrain-related is a consumable part that will need replacing down the road. Seller is smoking crack. I would avoid this one.

Good bike but paying over 4 grand for a nearly 5 year old bike is stupid regardless of the spec imo, bike tech and design progresses too fast for that

yep, screw Evil. Over complicated suspension design that barely achieves anything and is downright heavy. Plus I have never heard one good thing about their customer service.

If you're really interested I have some Rocky Mountain Instinct C50's in the shop I'd sell at a friend discount. That'd get you the full warranty and everything, and I really do enjoy who I work with at Rocky Mountain, great company.

To Evil's credit, they've been good with getting my buddy replacement Offering parts very quickly. In the mail same-day type of quick. Unfortunately it happens relatively often. I heard they used to be way worse about it, but have improved.

I just found another way to be fat but pretending to be badass, by lifting up and biking down Vail. Am hooked tho just got my gear. Get to hang with my winter ski bros in summer now for mtn biking. Stoked! Even my other fat friend who i thought only touches ebikes got himself a summer pass too.

Worked out for the best though because in the meantime I’ve found three borderline too good to be true bikes that I’m gonna buy for the price of one, just gonna have to make a bit of a road trip.
