I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

Never running sram brakes voluntarily again. Already didn’t like them much but then road my dads hard tail with brand new deores and they feel so much better than these srams

Stopping is for quitters. Take the brakes off completely and save weight for extra speed

Ya the guides kinda suck, I’ve use slx before and they were very solid and I only had the 2 pot calipers.

Shimano zee brakes have great power and are pretty affordable too. Definitely my choice for future brakes

Guide T is garbage. SLX 4 pot is a huge upgrade. My DH bike came with the Guide T and I freaking hate them. And of course, no brakes are in stock to replace them, even for me who manages a shop 🤔

Cheap Sram sucks a lot more than cheap shimano, but nice Sram brakes ex code rsc are actually quite good and I prefer them to shimano in many ways (having had both newest and nicest models for long time each…) one thing I’ve been having trouble with shimano rn is stocking. I cannot get oem pads for my xt m8120’s no matter where I look. Also replacement parts for shimano are insane rn. I broke a lever blade on my Xt’s 2 months ago and currently using a 5 year old xt lever I had laying around because I literally could not find a replacement 20$ lever blade anywhere. You can get Sram lever blades for all their brakes on Amazon for 20$ like anytime rn. Been looking at hayes and trp options as well to replace my shimanos. Food for thought

Ive got some red label pads in my code rsc and they are great. Curious to use them in the wet still. hasnt rained in like 50 days but that may change soon. I am considering switching to hayes dominions though. Love the feel of them and they are super powerful.

I honestly feel like half of the people shitting one brake manufacturer over another are just making excuse for lack of mechanical skills, poor braking technique, or simple bandwagoning.

It's 2021, brakes have come a long way since the brakes that failed you in 2008 and swore off forever but still lock up your rear wheel on every corner. Sram makes good brakes, Shimano makes good brakes, Sram has cheap options, Shimano has cheap options. I also know way to many people who upgrade their brakes before even considering different pads or rotor sizes.

In a weird role reversal, I actually got to ride them in the wet last week. Can't feel a difference from stock metallic pads, even on bigger descents. I truly see no reason to ride stock pads ever again. Probably gonna throw some of the gold ones on my new bike when it comes just because.

Lol, this is the state of the bike industry. A singular front brake came in stock to the distributor's warehouse, and it was gone in 2 minutes.

Had a few vehicular hiccups but that weekend was a solid couple days of riding. Found a good campsite and woke up to a flat tire on my friend's car, but we swapped on the donut and put the slashed wheel in the back of my truck and was able to get it replaced while we rode Deer Valley. Fire Swamp and NCS were a blast and it felt so good to get some lift laps with good friends I haven't seen in too long. Got back to the campsite and put the wheel with a new tire on and then made some BLTs and drank and smoked and reminisced until bed. Started the next day with some coffee and donuts and had the intention of getting a lift at Park City for a bigger ride, but was heading down the trail from the campsite and my front left wheel locked up, was able to get it rolling but by the time we got into the town near our campsite the wheel bearing was destroyed, brake was locked up, was smoking like crazy, and the wheel was cambered and hanging on by a thread. I had stopped about a half mile from the shop just to make sure nothing was on fire, and just decided to keep moving to prevent the risk of something completely seizing up. Made it to a shop and the wheel was so hot that the plastic center cap was starting to melt and was being pushed off of the bolts. I thought we were fucked and I was going to be stranded for a couple days, but the shop was awesome and was able to get the wheel bearing, cv axle and both front brakes replaced while went for a burger and a bike ride. Ended up riding High Star Ranch in Kamas, UT and found some damn good trails, and by the time we had finished our ride and rode back to town my truck was done.
8/10, would recommend breaking down in Kamas Utah

I was just there and had a grand old time, at DV the last couple sections of Fire Swamp were so much fun and I ended the day on NCS. If you are trying to stay on a budget bring your own lunch to DV because the cheapest option was a $20 chicken sandwich. Didn't go quite to plan but was still great, I'd highly recommend getting a quick ride in at High Star Ranch in Kamas if you find yourself out that way.

Honestly some of the most well built trails I've ridden in a while, I rode down The Chase, which has some insanely good corners, and RADke which is filled with some really great rock features, and every single trail I rode at High Star had better flow than most of the trails at DV. Pretty quick ride for just a single lap or you could do a few climbs easily and try out a few different trails, definitely a hidden gem.

As of a few days ago, they have a couple Zee levers right now. It's like the only thing in stock actually. Talk to a local shop with a Shimano account.

you should check out richfield utah. pahvant is an amazing trail system, specifically spinal tap.

So my bike is pretty old and doesn’t have a hole for internal dropper routing. I have an external post now but it is pretty finicky and relies on a nylon string which breaks all the time.

could i drill a hole for an internal dropper? The frame seems super over built and it has a brace right above the spot i want to drill.





I think i would drill it towards the bottom of the seat tube about an inch below the brace

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work. Keep it an inch or so from the closest welds and it shouldn't significantly impact the frame structure. Metal tubes are super strong and your bike has lots of reinforcement in its design

Just buy a better external dropper. Nylon string? Could you replace it with a proper cable?

No and he's no different than the stupid fucks that purchase a brand new $40 wheel and they get upset the hub isn't the best quality.

Just get the external PNW post (in the correct diameter of course)
