I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

I don't know if I can handle the endless internet armchair quarterbacking and strife over whatever track they ended up building.

Also, I really want a bottom-up revival of DH racing in the US, not a top-down passing fad because it happens to be in the Olympics.

Fair enough, I was mostly thinking if there is XC why not DH.

I am not personally invested enough in bike racing to really know the grassroots scene and how the sport is doing but as a skier I think the Olympics is bad for skiing so I can see how that could be true for biking as well

.squirrely.Have heard terrible things about the Neo hubs, dont think they even produce them anymore, but I’m on a set of the flow S1 with neo hubs and have had 0 issues. I’m 190lbs and usually below 20psi in the tires, rims are still like new and hub engagement is good enough. Got the set for $100 so if it lasts through end of the season I’m happy

Lol i take this post back shredded my rear hub ride #1 of a 3 day trip…

if anyone in SLC has a 27.5 12x142 rear wheel XD driver let me know only option i have found is another stans with Neo hub

I agree. Regional and national DH events will do more for the sport than putting it in the olympics.

Also whatever track they build would probably suck and if it’s anything like xc in the olympics, the commentators would know very little about the event

That's shitty man. I have a freshie 27.5 flow laced to a hope hub but it's boost and I'm in CO. Good luck on your search. Hubs may as well be glass. I hate that some 5k+ bikes come stock with them.

I see more and more small dh parks host weekly or bi weekly races and it kinda rallies the community. Even the XC and Enduros in my area have done that

That's an interesting comparison. And just from a logistical perspective, my guess is that it would be pretty challenging to put together a decent DH course near any of the summer cities. For context, that XC course is 2.5 miles long, with 500' of climbing each lap. Hard to find course stats for UCI World Cups, but for comparison, Fort Bill is 1.7 miles long with 1800' of descending. You can build a 2.5 mile course with 500' of climbing just about anywhere that has some rolling hills. 1800' of descending in 1.7 miles requires some mountains. It's funny, because many of the places in the world with the best DH mountain biking are also places that have hosted/could host Winter Olympics, but not many of the places that host the summer games have the topography to have a real DH course.

It's also interesting because there's a decent overlap with high-profile road riders racing XC in the Olympics. That would never happen with DH, and it adds a lot of legitimacy and viewership to an event if a bunch of folks that were just on the Tour are out racing it.

Totally. Every bike park needs some form of weeknight racing as well. That was also one of my biggest takeaways from that PB "State of the Sport" survey.

I think it would be more realistic to add slopestyle or dual slalom to the olympics. Way easier to build the course/ easier to televise. Slopestyle and slalom is kind of a dying sport and these guys don’t really have many events to work towards other than crankworx so the olympics might give these athletes a larger goal and more of an audience.

Dual slalom is so cool to watch. I would love to see it get popular again and be in the olympics. More bike parks and trail systems have been building slalom courses so it could make a comeback and be mainstream again someday

I’ve seen 3 druids and the only dude I talked to had non stop issues with his chain falling off. I watched it pop it twice in the time I saw him climbing. Could just be user error

Id advise against doing a frame-up build unless you have a complete build already or you will be waiting until 2022 to have a rideable bike

Should be primo conditions been getting rain every day dirt is as good as it gets here

If you want to climb for crest park at canyons by the 7-11 then pedal bike path to PC, climb 100 different options up PC to get to top of puke hill, then do crest trail to canyons connector to red coat to insurgent to ricochet pretty great loop.

Their bikes ride good with minimal fuss. Value is good, builds make sense, with no weak points, great warranty, great customer service.

Judging a bike by whatever marketing lingo they've managed to come up with to describe their linkage doesn't make sense. We've reached a point where we can make bikes climb and descend well with whatever combination of links and pivots you want. Horst link is just fine by me, and I'd rather service it than a bunch of extra pivots. I give them my money because they are cool people, doing cool shit, and making mountain biking better. That doesn't mean everyone has to feel that way, but I'd rather the margins on whatever bike I buy go towards building Blue Steel than developing some new $15k moped.

Valid. If you compare them to Santa Cruz or Sprcialized it does kinda have some value. But I’d prolly never buy either of those cause all u do is pay for the name

I'm not sure a 5.8k bike with GX and a stans wheelset is a good value build with no weak points. Especially when revel and guerilla gravity have i9 wheelsets for for similar or less price. Not trynna be a hater I just geat heated how expensive bikes are.

The xt builds still have the stans wheelset... you gotta go fullout with them to get a wheelset that isn't literally stan's economy wheelset. Good bikes, sure. Good value, compared to what?
