I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

You live in Wisco right? If your ever down near madtown check out quarry ridge or maybe it’s park in Verona/fitchberg area, black hawk ski area has some short fun smaller jump trails in Middleton

cydwhitBike shorts are like tech bindings. You think you're doing great without them, and then you try them for the first time and realize how much better they are and never go back. I don't even ride in a chamois, but I do always ride in good shorts.


Felt like I was taking crazy pills there for a bit, didn't know bike shorts were such a controversial topic. Do all these people also ski in jeans? If you already have pants that work fine why would you buy pants for skiing??

5 10 quality is dead rn but they still have good rubber. The new specialized 2fo flat shoes are apparently on par with 5 10 in terms of grip and constructed much better

Ride concepts is also killin the game rn, they’ve been picking up a bunch of dudes and seem to have a good product for the money

My vans kyle walker pros are great. They've got a stiff enough sole and plenty of heel support.

I just got the free rider pros, upgraded from the regular freeriders and the difference is definitely noticeable, they are so much stiffer and a little lighter too, but I would definately go with the impacts cuz they are badass

I killed my Ride Concepts faster than I've destroyed any other shoe.

Pearl Izumi with the BOA are bad, don't buy them. Broke the crap out of them in the first three days, mediocre grip, overall pretty bummed on what could have been a class-leading shoe.

I have a pair of the Stamps, they seem good, pretty stiff sole, but haven't gotten to ride in them yet.

glad I didnt go with the Ride Concepts, I get deals on them so it was tempting but nah

seems like Most BOA products tend to not be the best unfortunately, the concept is cool but I feel like I always break them

I have the RC Hellion and they have held up very well for me. How did yours fail?

Large chunks of sole missing, sole delaminating from upper, seams failing on the upper. All from June-August last year. Loved the shoe, but they fell apart so fast.

I had the same demise of my Giro Riddance with Vibram soles. I lost chunks of the sole where the pins contacted the sole so badly that the sole only contacted the pedal body and could slide my foot back and forth along the channels carved away by the pins. The upper stitching blew out after 4 months, but I was using them as an everyday commuting shoe in addition to MTB and walking around in them a lot.

It seems like flat pedal shoes and sharp metal pins are just doomed to wear out fast, I just wish the uppers would outlast the sole wear. Meanwhile I have hundreds of miles on my 8 year old basic lace up shimano clipless shoes and the uppers have held up impeccably. May switch back to clipless this season.

My opinions:

Ride Concepts = Overpriced garbage. Waste of money
FiveTen = Expensive, but best grip. The new adidas trailcross line doesnt look too awful.
Giro = Meh.

I actually ride the Vans BMX Pro Sk8 Hi. Stiffer sole, and cushier insole. Not gonna be as stiff as a proper MTB shoe, but I like to feel the pedals a little more, and just prefer high tops in general. Not waterproof at all though.

Just got a polygon vander it’s a 130/130 bike 1700$ and it’s a online bike company. Was kinda sceptical of it but pulled the trigger cause of the components it has for the money. Just road it today and it feels suprisingly good and functions well for 1700$
