I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

That's just not true my man. If I can double the distance traveled when I go ride my bike, I will have twice the impact on the trail. All there is to it.

I don't have problems with them inherently, I'm sure they're fun. But in my area multi-use trails don't need the added traffic. Ebikes need their own place to ride.


This is true, you could also damage the trails twice as much just by riding your regular bike twice as much. I don't think that's a solid argument againts ebikes, people on ebikes aren't really going to be riding that much more. Maybe I'm picturing a different kind of riding than you since I don't really ride multi use trails much but I don't see people on ebikes just speeding laps on flat trails, more so to help get speed for jumps with bad inruns and just have an easier time lapping steep zones

Just ride twice as much? So 4-5 times a week spend 4 hours a day riding after work instead of 2? Now you're just being silly my guy.

You must be fortunate enough to be in an area with little traffic on your trails if you dont see how ebikes can be annoying af.

some of the trails at lowers elevations are still rideable though

Just went riding yesterday. Only about an inch or two of snow but still awesome. Waiting for the local to open so biking it is until Christmas.

Whelp, looks like the snow is back. Glad I got one good dry mtb ride in but I guess it's time for the yearly teardown and suspension service, and need to get on the fatbike more. Just need to start bringing the bike to work for lunch rides.

Fatbikes seem to get shit on a lot, but it seems like the people who shit on them don't live in wintry climates, or have only tried ones with XC or touring focused geometry. My Kona Woo is a blast, has super short chainstays, a long reach, doesn't feel like an XC bike other than being fully rigid. I'm toying with the idea of throwing on a suspension fork, Works 2 degree headset, and a 29+ wheelset this summer. The only really weird thing is the wide q factor which I got used to quickly.

-15 today, and still not enough snow to ski at the local. A hill an hour away opened up, but passholder only so i missed out. Headed back to ontario tmo to, so thats a bummer.

x games just announced real mtb. What do you guys think? Mtb videos have been crazy recently so I think there should be some good stuff. Super broad range of riding though so it’ll be hard to judge. Riders are DJ Brandt, Danny Mac, Veronique Sandler, Semenuk, Brage Vestavik and Cam Zink

This will be interesting to say the least. Very weird imo that you've got such a mix of riding types. It's gonna be pretty hard to judge danny mac's trials versus freeride guys like zink. They're really completely different disciplines. It should be fun to watch and I'll be impressed if they can pull it off well. Cool to see that x games is interested in mtb again and hopefully this goes better than the 2013 x games slopstyle disaster.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. It would be like if real ski started including guys riding Alaska heli lines. I do feel like all of the different types of mountain biking have been merging together recently. All of Danny Macs recent videos have been on normal trail bikes, free ride guys are incorporating more tricks, slopestyle guys are moving up to big bikes, and 50to01 is bring tech bmx tricks to trail bikes on natural features. Really cool to see Vero in there too. More and more often you find women are being included just to meet the new quotas (not just in sports, but also business, TV shows, etc) but in this event she'll more than hold her own. Her new dirt jump spot at Revs looks epic and I'm sure there will be some banger edits coming out in the near future.

Patrol if you aren't too concerned about price. it's a bike shop brand, so it is very easy to get parts if you need them.

The Capra is definitely cheaper, but it can take 6 - 10 weeks to get new parts or frames if you end up with problems.

Yea I am leaning more towards the Patrol, I've heard some horror stories about YT customer service, and my local shop hates trying to get parts for DTC brands too. I dig the look of the shred tho

I have the Capra Pro, it's definitely a pain to get replacement parts, but the customer service is super good, just slow. They sent me some paint to touch up some scratches and scuffs and it only took about a week so that was pretty good. Also YT's prices are hard to beat.

yea, 3500 for a well spec'd bike on coils really cant go wrong

I’d also say you should consider checking out the Nukeproof mega, it’s very well specced for the price, and they just revised the geo and suspension layout this year. I think the top carbon build is only like 5200 and you the works. The lower price models also have great value too

Realized I never posted photos of the new bike that I got in September, a lightly used 2020 Rocky Instinct BC. Man is this thing awesome, have ridden it nearly daily and it's perfect for the enduro stuff I do in NH/VT and light enough for big alpine rides when I commute to CO. Here she is the day I bought her:

Just put it away for the winter, stoked for skiing but also for more riding come spring!

As far as bikes, i just came off a carbon patrol with a coil on it. Such a rad bike. Its definitely a lot of bike though, so depending on where you live and where you ride, its definitely not for everyone. Im on a carbon scout now that i long shocked so its 150/160 now. its essentially a mini patrol thats a lot more playful.

What makes you say that? I'm definitely not in the camp that want' ebike access opened up to non-motorized trails, nor am I even close to the target market demographic. But I do think it would be a blast on the kind of trails that are already popular with both MTB and Moto crowds.
