I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

I reckon I’m starting to like mtb more than skiing. It sucks in the NZ north island cause there’s only one ski hill, which is apparently one of the worlds iciest hills..... it’s great with biking cause I can just go lap after work year round, it’s way cheaper as-well. I just a bought a shuttle pass which lasts till June 30 for like 500nzd

Where in the North Island are you and which shuttle pass did you get? I can give advice. I lived in Auckland for a year and brought my mtn bike with me.

it's better than skiing in pretty much every single way imo. just hurts a bit more when you stack it.

It's only worth it if you want to keep your teeth and face looking the way they do. Even if you are peddling its worth it if you are hitting large features.

I was playing with dropper (reverb) it was working fine this afternoon when riding. Then at home I took it out of the bike and checked out some screws now it doesn’t work it all???? It’s stuck in the depressed position but I can pull it up - though it instantly goes back down.

In reality, whether tools are worth the investment or not totally depends on how mechanically minded and passionate you are. Be honest with yourself. I personally love working on bikes myself, but i dont just love it since it keeps me riding, i love it for the process too. I have a friend with very little mechanical knowledge, and was to stubborn to admit he couldn’t fix things as they went wrong, so they got worse. At which point he turned into the person skierman described, and bitched about it having been broken as soon as he got it and how shops were charging him way too much. For some people shops are the play, and i hate that the bike community has a tendency to shame you if you cant fix everything on your bike.

That’s something I’d look at it in the future when I have my own house and some free time on my hands. But because of my job I’m constantly busy and don’t really want to deal with the admin. Thanks for the constructive comment, skierman could learn a thing

There's something about Go Pro's Line of the year that really bothers me. In my opinion, a "line" should really be limited to freeride riding, such as chutes, rock rolls, spines, huge gaps etc. Gnarly stuff. A trail that's fully established and has been ridden thousands of times by everyone and their mother, such as skinny trails that won last year and is in the competition again this year, does not count as a "line". Hes riding the trail exactly how it was meant to be ridden, just 5x faster than anyone else (I'm not ignoring the fact that this takes an insane level of skill).

Steve and Remy should be winning this all day long.

Snuck in one last ride yesterday before this storm hits this afternoon and probably ends riding until next spring


Also, stopped by MRP's (very small) factory a couple weeks ago when I was riding Grand Junction, and dropped my fork off so I can upgrade my Ribbon Air to the new Chocolux internals. Didn't really think I'd notice much difference, but WOW. For such a small company, this fork is absolutely amazing.

Went on the weirdest ride yesterday. The whole trail was covered in this weird dirt and ice crystal crust. I looked it up after and apparently it’s called needle ice. It was almost like avy conditions for dirt. You’d have grip and then a big chunk of the ground would break off and crumble.

40% sag is super soft, I run just under 20% and I'd say that's fairly normal for people who hit jumps/ride gnarly shit

40% sag is ridiculously soft. I run 15% on a 180mm fork. The rabbit/turtle knob is most likely the rebound, I like to run mine at 2 clicks past the center (for the fork). For the air pressure, just go slightly above recommendation for a low travel bike.

... Do some research man. The fast rabbit you are referring to is the rebound setting. God knows what you're talking about with the lighter in the air remark.

Regardless, once set up, your reign will be more than capable for anything you're planning on hitting.

Air has weight. Less air pressure = less air = less weight. We all know lighter equals better so I guess everyone should be running their tires and suspension at 0psi

I can't tell if you're joking or not but I'm gonna try to educate you so you don't mess up your bike any more.

The turtle and the rabbit stickers next to that adjustment knob signify the rebound adjustment. Twisting the knob in the rabbit direction will make your fork extend quicker after it's been compressed, and the turtle direction will make it extend slower. Rebound and Sag are two completely different metrics in suspension and don't affect each other in any way. If you're hitting big jumps and drops you should be running anywhere between 15-25% sag, depending on your preferences on how you'd like your bike to feel. Same logic for the rear shock. I'm not going to explain compression settings because I don't know what fork you have and I'm also gonna assume you couldn't tell the difference. I am going to assume you know how to set sag but watch this video for more guidance:

You are receiving this email either because you have reached out directly to SWMMBA within the last year in regards to the dirt jumps and or pump tracks. Or I know you personally and are a respected member of the local bicycle community. This coming Thursday November 12, we will be asking the city commission for funding for phase 1 to improve Westlake Park. Because we will formally be addressing the city commission I am asking everyone to send a letter of support for Westlake Park and more specifically the "dirt jump park." This letter should generally address why Westlake Park is a valuable asset to Bozeman and the surrounding communities in southwest Montana. In addition if you know of someone that would also like to write a letter of support and is not on this email, feel free to forward it along.

Off-topic but I was in Bellingham a few months ago and they have a pretty sick pumptrack/dirtjumps park thing.

CLQRode an e bike in a parking lot the other day, what a load of horse shit saying its "pedal assist". You just have to lightly pedal and thing accelerates like crazy, no effort at all.


"pedal assist" means it assists you pedaling, i.e. it doesn't have a throttle or some other way to accelerate. It can be really powerful acceleration and still be pedal assist if you have to pedal to get it to go. Imo I have no problem with ebikes, never ridden one but I think they're rad. Lots of stuff you can do on an ebike that you can't do on a regular bike, and they let you get quick laps. They're not gonna take over your trails since they're expensive as hell and heavy as shit. They don't damage the trails any more than regular bikes, its not a moto. Anyone who hates on ebikes is just a salty boomer

That's just not true my man. If I can double the distance traveled when I go ride my bike, I will have twice the impact on the trail. All there is to it.

I don't have problems with them inherently, I'm sure they're fun. But in my area multi-use trails don't need the added traffic. Ebikes need their own place to ride.
