FRNT: Cody vs. Devastator

Hello all. I am intermediate skier who skis in the Pacific Northwest (never backcountry). I am looking to buy a versatile ski that can handle a variety of conditions. Having skied the PNW for a year, I know there are very deep days, as well as those crud days with very wet snow. I am 5'8", 145lbs.

So I have it down to two pairs of FRNT skis because (mostly) of budget. These skis are both all mountain skis, I really just don't know which one to pick. The Devestator is full rocker so it would be better on pow i assume, and its also a little wider (2mm). The Cody is a classic camber, which I think will be easier to ski on, and more like skis I have had before.Cody is about 30$ more.


SO NS: Those who have had these skis or just want to give me some help, K+ for good responses.

I would go with the Cody, it is a little easier for intermediate skiers to handle. The devastator is 8mm wider, has no camber, and a longer turning radius, all three of which you will probably find challenging to deal with for a lot of the time. The Cody is more nimble, has some rocker so it does ok in pow, and camber to turn with.

Out of curiosity, I'm wanting to know how a fully rocketed ski is less nimble than one with camber. For a fast turn, billy-goating style of skiing. I'm not disagreeing, I'm just wanting to know more.

I'd go devastator...with the reflect tech it makes it awesome on groomers...also if your into park I've seen quite a few edits of the devastator in the park...I've also seen it in pow/all mtn edits because it has rocker...the only thing the Cody might be better at is that since the Cody has camber it might be poppier, but the Cody camber isn't ment to be a poppy camber rather than a carving camber...so personally I'd go devastator

i would personally go with devastator. in the long run you will be happier with the devastator. dont get me wrong these are both good skis, but for pure all mountain the devys will absolutely rule everything. ive heard first hand from people that they do good in pow, SLAY the crud and absolutely rip on grooms.(all because of the reflect tech) these skis are fully rockered so they turn easy. They aren't full on bananas if that's what your thinking either. theyre basically early rise the hole way through. If you do get these skis they will take some getting used to. good luck man, i ride 4frnt crjs my self.

also the Devastator will actually turn better, because the part of the ski thats touching will basically pivot,(because its fully rockered) unless your carving on grooms, then the whole length of the ski comes into play.

They shouldn't be hard tongt used to at all... The full rocker isn't too hard to ski and the reflect tech makes it a good on edge ski...if you have to get used to it it'll take less than a day

It doesn't have to be. I would just comparing the Cody to the Devastator. The Cody is a nimble quick-turning ski, while the devastator has more of a charge style. Not to say it can't make quick turns as well, but it is easier on the Cody. But I know of fully rockered skis that are much more nimble than rocker-camber skis. It mainly depends on the taper and the turning radius.

The Cody is soft as hell, especially the tail. Devastator is reportedly pretty stiff but I've not skied it. Only one of them will suit your style of skiing.

I wasn't disagreeing or arguing with you, I was just wanting to know more. Skis have so much crazy technology these days I can barely keep up with it all. :)

Haha dw i gotchu. Just showing you what I meant ;). I just think that turning radius is something that a lot of new ski buyers overlook, and severely impacts their perception of the ski.

I'm giving a vote for the devastators...I think you'll like them more if you want to progress as a skiier...really good all mtn ski...but honestly you can't go wrong on the skis, so don't be upset if ya get one over the other...but I think the devastators will be more fun and you can grow with them as a skiier

I believe the devs will be less nimble when arcing a turn, but once broken free it should be easier to pivot and swing around.

i might snag myself a pair of these skis, both a good price. was thinking the devestator for an east coast pow ski that i can bring west with me, or maybe the cody as a one ski quiver
