Did skiing make GoPro what it is?

I may be a little drunk here but a thought popped into my head. The first time I ever saw GoPro footage was during one of the OG Traveling Circus episodes. AS it grew I feel like skiing was the first sport to adopt the GoPro and use it avidly. Am I being stupid? Probably. But it seems like we were the first stepping stone GoPro had in its quest for world domination. Now they've spread to pretty much every application imaginable but it's my belief skiing is where it got its start. Thoughts?

Ego is what made the go pro what it is. In an age where we share (brag) about everything, ego is ever-growing and self-confidence is ever shrinking. People have more pride than ever but are accomplishing less.

That being said I love watching videos from peoples POV. Unless it's synchronized swimming, that shit sucks.

Action sports have always been there waiting to be filmed.

The big leap was the confluence of a waterproof small camera, and cheap data storage en masse.

I'd like to think we (skiers) played an important role in the rise and popularity of GoPro. Sure the skiing market alone isn't big enough to really make it or break it; however, there were certain key ski related videos that provided enough inspiration for others to follow suit and create their own videos. When I started working at GoPro I would naturally choose to create skiing videos over others in specific instances - like that old glitch mob tv commercial. I would push to film with Wallisch, tucker, and others simply because I knew them well and knew what the results would be. From there those additional videos are shared and it virally spreads to create more awareness for GoPro and more people will get inspired to do the same inside or outside of skiing.

Surfing is actually a very small market for GoPro. I believe snow, auto and Moto are the big players.

Couldn't say it did but definitely helped it Gopro started out for attaching to race cars.

dunno, other than Bonny browns double on that commercial, gopro is just a helmet cam.

i just use it to review my style and my stupid falls.

haha yep, wish I sold. Was the best day of my life until the next morning at 9am. For some reason I was convinced it'd continue to shoot up the whole first week, but I still think it'll eventually keep rising.

If you bought at the initial IPO opening price and bagged a 13.33% return for $3Gs you'd have needed a cash outlay of about $22,500 for 750 shares.
