It very well could be. So many U.S. sponsored coups. We decided that we don't like a a leader of a country, or the group in power won't do what's best for us, then we work with the opposition, fund them with weapons and try to overthrow the government.
In the past communism was a scary thing that would allow us to go anywhere and do anything. Now that the fear of communism doesn't have quite the same ring we have terrorism. And if anyone ever forgets to be terrified of terrorism people will remind you, if that doesn't work something else is likely to happen to re-instill that fear.
We talk about "spreading democracy" yet we'll spare no expense trying to overthrow even democratically elected officials that don't want to do things our way.

As much of a bumbling man-child that he is/was, I feel his accomplishments, albeit very limited, are often overlooked. Yes, there were countless blunders and fuck-ups and trillions of dollars spent, and what can you expect from a half-wit and his army of insecure, de-humanizing thugs, but his military action was the main reason Iraq was saved from Saddam Hussein, and in my opinion he deserves a considerable amount more recognition for that. Iraq was, and still is, of immense value, and that moron of an ex-president managed somehow to help its restoration into a democracy, despite the calamities involved.
Don't get me wrong though. He will always remain an inept fool, displaying stupidity that has never been seen before, and he should never have been giving power anywhere near that level in the very first place. I'm sure any man in his position could've accomplished what I've credited him for, but, he was the one who did it, and that shouldn't be shrugged off so easily.
