I'm super excited to see Sammy's film project. All his parts in way of life, tracing skylines and his older stuff from Session etc were all super sick. His X games real snow backcountry is the best 90 seconds of backcountry skiing I've watched. I think he will only improve the more time he spends up in BC. Like Tanner and Dane who have spent more and more time up there and their styles are now on another level regarding backcountry pow lines and booters.

Dane and Sammy are anomalies in skiing. I could watch either of them ski anything from street to park comps to AK and say "fuckin eh that was awesome."

I'm sure it'll be good but to be something really special Todd Jones will have to put a little more effort into creative editing/music/whatever than the the typical TGR flick. Way of Life was your basic formulated WME piece of crap. I've got high expectations for this 2 year project.

All of the comments in this thread so far are spot on.

Sammy is such an incredible skier and awesome ambassador of our sport. The dude has such a natural talent when it comes to slaying any and all aspects of the sport. I think he is gonna show us some really big things in the next couple of years.

I wonder though, do you think he will still do stuff like the Sammy C Invitational and fun park projects on the side like he's been doing? I wonder if he'll cut all of that sort of stuff out of his agenda. Hopefully not, it's always fun to see how he's still got it in the park with his insane wall ride and giant kickers that he sets up.

Much respect to the man.

I feel like the quitting comp news isn't huge, because he definitely haas been slowly moving out of the comp scene. I wonder what the project will be like though. More like candides, or toms? It will be awesome either way

no offense to sammy cause he's super rad, but he has no business doing a documentary, at least not yet

im excited to see what he comes up with, i hope it's a wallish project style thing

Sammy is a super motivated skier who absolutely slays. I am stoked to see him pushing the sport and putting out dope edits.

I thought I read that it is 100% NOT a documentary or retrospective.

"It's a ski flick," says Carlson. "We have certain trips planned. We want to make the epic ski movie. It's not going to be a documentary by any means. The segments will be trip location-based and it'll be filled with friends. We want to take our time, really explore and push the skiing and filming to the max."

All I know is that "On Top of the Hood." was one of the best videos I've ever seen, skiing or otherwise.. So i cannot wait to see what he does with this. Should be unreal

I'm not trying to say he isn't an amazing competition skier, this contests vs. filming argument is really all relative to what each person sees as the most memorable.

For you that's his 2011 run (which is unreal) that stands out to you, for me his part in Yeah Dude ('07 I think?) is what makes me nostalgia. That's why i'm excited to see him working on his own video project and moving away from contests.

I was just saying both sides, he's ridiculously good! OTOTH is one of the best summer ski films ever, if not the best
