shreddinthegnarrI just saw a bumper sticker that said "My autistic child ignored your honor student"
I'm not sure how to interpret that as I'm not affected by autism at all but I can't find any positive message out of that. It just seems really arrogant and like it's trying to say autism is somehow superior to being an honors student. Thoughts on it?
Its more of a pride thing. Like, having a child with Autism is something thats both difficult, and amazing at the same time. So many people bash, and talk down to people with mental retardations, that sometimes parents feel the need to take pride in the differences their child has. I have 2 autistic cousins, a neighbor, my sister is a special education teacher, whos long term boyfriends younger brother has autism.
And actually, some people who suffer with Autism, also exhibit Savant abilities with a variety of subjects, from art, to technology. My cousin has autism, but can program like any other person, to the extent where my uncle is developing a specialization college for children who are like this. Interest for the college currently ranges from IBM, to other big name tech companies.
So in the end, its just trying to show pride in a difficult situation for their child.
