RachySpent a month in Paris and my two favorite things I did were going to Versailles and checking out the Catacombs. I enjoyed the Musee d'orsay more than the lourve. Pretty much just walk around and you'll run into cool stuff. Learn some SUPER BASIC french phrases and you will get WAY better help than speaking in English. "Je suis désolé, je ne parle pas français, parlez-vous anglais?" And you'll pretty much always find someone willing to help.
London... my favorites were the Museum of Natural History (free) and the Tower of London. If you have a day, I highly suggest taking the train to York. York is my favorite place I have been so far in England (as far as cities go).
