Vimeo will begin removing videos with copyrighted content

including music. This isn't good news for a lot of ski edits that are currently on Vimeo. Looks like I'm moving over to Newschoolers for video hosting.

One of the staff members said that the current plan does not include running the new scan through old videos. So any old videos are still subject to DMCA violation claims as they always have been. So if your ski edit wasn't taken down, it probably won't get taken down now.

Even youtube still has ton of videos with copyrighted material, if your video is only getting < 10k views I doubt you'll be on the radar. But I guess we'll just see...


NS is definitely a good option, but if we get any sort of takedown notice, we will have to take down your video. This is unlikely, but its definitely a possibility. We advise all members of the producer program to use music they have rights to, just in case they get a take down notice, but obviously were not running an automated copyright matching software...

It's a relief that the current videos are safe but I'm still disappointed to see it happen. I always liked having the option of using more mainstream music in casual edits.

What would you recommend using for getting licensing to publish songs for business? Usually I have just seen like stock songs, but usually when I try to find a popular song I have no such luck finding it.

I've used music from here: http://www.last.fm/music/+free-music-downloads before. If you dig around enough you may find something you like.

Care to elaborate?

IMO Vimeo is the highest quality public video player. Youtube works great, but Youtube is also a cesspool of shit. Until this new copyright rules, Vimeo was by far the best way to host any video. We'll see how strict it actually is, I'm not gonna get too upset until I see the result. Vimeo 1080p video is outstanding, nothing else matches it.

Remember the days of being stuck using Brightcove?

Vimeo was a godsend when it was first introduced, and it still is. Youtube is still garbage.
