omIV...most are still privately owned, no?
jensenI guess it depends on how you define privately owned. Vail and American Ski Company (are they even still around?) are both publicly traded companies. Boyne Resorts is privately held (as in not publicly traded) but is still large and corporate.
I was more referring to a while back when it seemed like rich families owned ski resorts. I remember 10 years ago (maybe more, I am getting old) when Copper Mountain in CO used to tout the fact that they weren't corporately owned, then came Intrawest. There are still some awesome little hills around that are family owned, but I can't think of any big resort that is not completely corporate.
PhilboydStudgeI think there's still some out there. It sucks that Copper and Winter Park are owned by Intrawest now, but I feel like they still have a better feel than Summit County. Crested Butte is still local (I think). And even though Aspen is a massive resort, I think that's all that the company owns. And that's just in Colorado--I don't know much about the west coast areas. Have faith!

snomasterCorrect me if I'm wrong but all the mountain collective resorts are independent... Jackson Hole, squaw/meadows, whistler, alta/bird, mammoth, aspen...
Vail is not god. And regardless, my skins can get me to better terrain than anything listed above.
