Reviving a skatepark

Alls ya need is cinder-blocks/bricks and some concrete mix.You can make little quarterpipes and boxes with just that, and its cheap. Plenty of tutorials floating around too

Really not that cheap but if you do a little here and there you can make a lot happen.


You could build some movable wood ledge boxes for cheap and some kickers. Build a 1/4 eventually. Could use some cinderblocks and concrete to build some stuff as well.

Get a few friends to pitch in on a project here and there. If ramps are being stolen might not be a bad idea to make shit that they can't steal. Either big shit or build everything our of concrete and if you build any rails, find a good spot, get a hole for the ends and throw some concrete around the base to hold them in place so nobody snags them.


See if your city will toss any funds or supplies your way. See if there's anybody in the community that would be down. In the grand scheme of things with donation there's a lot you could build with out that much money and there generally are people who like to give back to the kids.

The place is kind of been half turned into a parking lot (only half of it and there's never even any cars) and I'm not really sure if the city is down with things that can't be removed. We were thinking just about making some cheap wooden ramps and other stuff that can be moved. The spot is in kind of a ghetto-ish area, and the local people don't propably even give a fuck.

just some quick-krete, and a team of guys (and water) willing to make the park sick. shape up some quarter pipes, hips, tranny, and get metal pvc for the coping and youll be good

Was it a skatepark or a parking lot that people built a few things in?
If it wasn't a skatepark you might not want to put too much into building it at least not without finding out if it's cool. Nothing would suck more than building shit and having it torn down.


As far as portable shit it really depends. It's great to be able to move stuff around but people really will steal it if it's small enough.

Wood ramps. Don't fuck with concrete it's wayyyyy too expensive. Build some boxes out of wood and metal pipes from home depot. Also, a miniramp isn't too expensive you could probs make one for around 100-150 but you need to put forth the time and effort. Also, when you leave the park for the day, use tarps to cover the features and cinder blocks to hold them down so the features don't get ruined.

i was once in la and was trying to wheel this punk chick and ended up meeting a lot of her friends who all skated and lived with this old skater pro on his ranch which they were trying to turn into a skate park and decided to help them out. What we did was basically just skate around and when ever we saw something cool, i would do a bunch of skate tricks on it till it broke, then we would move it to the ranch. It was pretty sick by the end.

Also if the park you are trying to make ends up getting bought by someone because you didnt own it, i found the best way is by making a movie with a whole bunch of skater pros in it, just beat them at skating challenge and they will agree to be in it

American wasteland?

If its a large area of flat pavement (which im assuming is what is left, or else I dont really see how there was a park there) do what i do, and just make kickers and pyramids out of wood to start. Look around for pieces of metal you can use to grind on.

At my local park in Concord NH literally me and some buddies stole like 5 huge metal pipes and laid them down and they are what I learned backside smiths on. We also stole a slide and we have the times of our lives skating it.

Really all you need is to set a goal and a budget and find shit for free.
You can get so much free wood cutoffs from construction sites.

They tried to make a little snowboard park in Hawk Island, Michigan and it didnt take off. Not quite your idea but it was a lowland snowpark with a rope tow and some features.

With even mediocre construction and welding skills you could build a pretty nice park.

If you can get some funds build a nice mini. I miss the ones I used to have at my parents house. I'd love to build a 16' or 20' wide mini with different heights and a tranny vert wall. Hopefully I work at a mountain at some point that is building a mini or even a small park. I miss building ramps.
